The only thing you really have control of is today. Anger that lingers also ruins your day. Forgive yourself too, and feel the lifting of anger as it’s replaced by lightness.

I know it isn’t easy sometimes, to stop hurting. The thing is, the hurt doesn’t have to stop, it also doesn’t have to take over. Try making room to do things better next time. Learn from the hurt and find hope.

Too much positivity is not a good thing because it’s ingenuine, and often dismisses or invalidates painful feelings. We don’t appreciate the importance of our emotions. They exist for reasons, giving us so much information, if we pay attention. The key is to allow painful emotions, like anger, fear, hurt, guilt, shame and sadness, to exist but not take over. The pathway there involves noticing others and opening the mind to understand someone else’s pain. Each person’s pain is unique. (MTC) So, you don’t have to be “positive“ all the time, but this new path will take you closer to feeling good.

Perhaps the biggest fear of all is being alone. Ironically, the friend, daughter/son, niece/nephew, aunt/uncle, student, teacher that you offer to others, is inside you all the time. So why not give it all to yourself? Try to interrupt the self criticism and anticipatory worry, and replace it with gratitude and appreciation of the present moment. ❤️

Most of us know the dark side. It’s the place we go in our minds. It starts with stress that brings worry and negative thoughts. It’s a dark path that never ends in a positive way. An alternative, that gets ignored by the dark side, is to recognize your stress response and choose to pause instead. Take a deep breath, opting to self-soothe… check in with yourself, as you would a friend. Take a walk outside, reach out to someone you can talk to, and focus your mind in the present moment. Be kind to yourself and you will manage through the stressful experience.

Tell me if you agree or disagree. What if you wake up tomorrow and ask yourself, “who do I want to be today?” If you don’t know the answer, you might realize a behavior you want to change, even if you keep repeating it. Perhaps your authentic self knows the change will lead you toward feeling better.

It’s hard not to look back at past mistakes and overthink them. And past mistakes can cause worry about the future, fearing making the same mistakes. But these thoughts cause anxiety which makes it harder to pay attention, unable to focus, leading to avoiding and procrastinating. Shift your energy to the now, the present moment. Today is the day you can control, so do one small thing that makes you feel good.

We all know it’s important, but what does work - life balance really mean. It’s more than making time for living. It’s more than reducing work hours. Taking care of one’s self is the key. Enjoying time with one’s self, friends and family, attending to self-care with nutrition, exercise and sleep, and seeking help when needed, are ways to achieve a healthy balance.
