Distraction Charters is different than any other offshore fishing guide service in Orange Beach, Alabama. “We keep your poles bent and smiles on your faces.”Instead of focusing on catching only red snapper, we take you to catch fish that are biting. We offer a level of customer service that can’t be found elsewhere. We specialize in taking families, small kids and first timers deep sea fishing. W

e are happy and like to have fun with you. If you don’t want to keep all you catch, we can still catch them, take a picture and then release them. If the fish you catch are in season, you are welcome to harvest them. We are open year round with peak seasons running Memorial Day to Labor Day. We offer with two trips daily’s. Our charter boat is a 41 ft Hatteras Yacht that has a restroom, kitchen and an air conditioned cabin. We take up to 6 anglers per trip and we have new and well maintained fishing tackle.

Today is the longest day of the year and it will not be wasted. (First day of summer solstice).

Since seas are still churning and wind is howling, we are headed to the boat to check make sure the newly rebuilt and installed steering ram is good to go and holding pressure.

There is always something that needs to be done on a boat.

Bonito is a feisty fish to catch. We usually hook one going to and from the fishing grounds. Food quality is poor, but using them for cut bait is ideal.

I noticed that my boats steering ram cylinder developed a slight leak. Since we can’t fish due to 8 ft seas for about 5 days, I took it to the hydraulic shop today. Will rebuild it and reinstall tomorrow.

Just want to make sure everything is top shape so your trip goes off without a hitch.

Nice king mackerel. These fish show up around June and can usually be caught up to Thanksgiving each year. Barely legal 24” fish tastes great.

Ever heard of a pre-trip or post-trip inspection? It’s a common thing in the world of trucking and aviation that I used to work in. I brought with me the procedures to the charter fishing industry 22 years ago.

We perform this routine inspection before and after every fishing trip. We purposely open our engine hatches, crawl down in the area and look for the little things that can cause us to not be able to run the next fishing trip.

Today, was no exception. I opened the engine room hatches after our trip and saw a drops of oil on my port engine.

I wiped the little drip up and upon inspection, found a pin hole leak in the metal tube at the base of my oil dip stick. I cleaned the part and repaired the tiny hole and now we are ready to go for the next fishing trip.

It’s the little things we do that separates us from those who don’t.

Glad to be back on the water today. Our boat is running like a well oiled machine!

Minimizing handling time of big amberjack and getting them back in the water quickly, helps ensure their survival.

Feels good to have the “Mighty D” back in the water. After we got her in the slip, we had to scrub all the grime and boat yard dust off her. She is shining now. No leaks either! Now that’s a good thing. Make sure you book your fishing trip as soon as you make your hotel/condo reservation!

It’s that time of year to haul out and clean the bottom. We pressure washed her and cleaned the hull too. Sam used EBG Cleaner (elbow grease) to knock the calcium build up off the hull that was caused by washing her with hard water. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Distraction Charters is the FIRST offshore fishing charter in the United States to specialize in family fishing, marine education and to promote conservation. We encourage our guests to catch as many fish as they can. When it comes to harvesting, we encourage you to take only what you need, instead of what you can. This is because we want there to be enough fish for future generations to catch.

We are unlike any other deep sea fishing boat around Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama. Instead of being like other charters, we are very selective in the fish we take you to harvest. Just because the fish are of legal size, that doesn’t make them good to eat. Therefore, we guide you toward quality fish, instead of only large fish, when it comes to deciding which one you should harvest. We do catch some really large fish, but very few of them have the food quality that we desire for our own family. We look out for your best interest.

Our trips are laid back. The environment we put you in is calming. It is a place where you and your children can learn at your own pace without being intimidated or overwhelmed. If the fish you catch are in season, you are welcome to harvest the ones you catch.

We are open year round with peak seasons running from a week before Memorial Day to Labor Day. We offer two 6 hour trips each day, except Sunday’s. Our charter boat is a 41 ft Hatteras Yacht that has a clean, private restroom, kitchen and an air conditioned cabin. We take up to 6 anglers per trip and we have new and well maintained fishing tackle.
