As the holiday season unfolds, Global Ties Arizona wants to express our heartfelt thanks to our community for your steadfast support of citizen diplomacy this year.
In 2023, your dedication fueled meaningful global connections, fostering friendships and promoting openness that knows no borders. Together, we've built bridges, broken barriers, and celebrated diverse cultures.
Thank you for being an integral part of the Global Ties Arizona family. Wishing you and yours a joyous season filled with warmth, laughter, and togetherness.
Happy Holidays!
Today we acknowledge Indigenous Peoples' Day to celebrate the vibrant cultures, rich histories, and profound contributions of Indigenous peoples around the globe.
Arizona's unique cultural landscape is shaped by the presence of 22 federally recognized tribes, each with its own distinct traditions, languages, and stories. These communities have not only persevered through centuries but have also thrived, showcasing resilience and strength that inspire us all.
We believe that by celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day, we can contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the importance of cultural preservation, mutual respect, and diplomacy.
On this day, let us remember that recognizing the past and acknowledging the challenges faced by Indigenous communities today is an essential step toward a more inclusive and equitable future. By honoring Indigenous Peoples' Day, we reiterate our commitment to supporting initiatives that promote cultural heritage preservation, education, and empowerment.
Last year we welcomed a Women and Entrepreneurship delegation from Kyrgyz Republic that visited the Native Art Market to meet with the shop owners and enjoy fantastic presentations from talented and passionate performers.
Let's continue to work together to ensure that Indigenous people's voices are heard, their stories are shared, and their contributions are valued.
Today we are celebrating 234 years of the U.S. Department of State!
We proudly implement the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), our nation’s premier professional exchange program.
Through this program, we bring up-and-coming, transformational foreign leaders across diverse fields from all around the world to Arizona.
To many more years of American Diplomacy!
Happy Independence Day, America!
Today, we come together to celebrate the spirit of independence and the birth of a nation.
Be safe and enjoy the fireworks!

It’s #InternationalEducationWeek (IEW), an opportunity to celebrate the positive impacts and benefits of international education, exchange and partnerships worldwide. This joint initiative of the @statedept and @usedgov is meant to “promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.”
In light of International Education Week, @globaltiesaz would like to highlight our university partner: Northern Arizona University (@nauflagstaff), and hear from Ms. Melissa Armstrong, Director of Interdisciplinary Global Programs at NAU & a Board Member of GTAZ; and Mr. Jay Lewis, Director of Strategic Global Initiatives, NAU.
“In a typical year, we have an international student population of over 1,300 students from over 82 countries around the world.”
- Jay Lewis, Director of Strategic Global Initiatives, NAU
“Our goal is to help inspire global leaders of positive change worldwide. In this way, we have a shared philosophy with Global Ties Arizona.”
- Melissa Armstrong, Director of Interdisciplinary Global Programs, NAU

Diwali is the Festival of Lights and also celebrates the beginning of the Hindu New Year. It annually takes place on the 15th of the Hindu month of Kartika, which often falls between the months of October and November in the United States.
Diwali is celebrated through fireworks, sweets, gifts, puja (prayers), home decoration, diyas (homemade oil lamps), and by spending time with family and loved ones. Depending on where and how you celebrate Diwali, the holiday can last anywhere from 1-5 days.
“A thousand candles can be lighted from the flame of one candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness can be spread without diminishing that of yourself.” - Mahatma Ghandi
Global Ties Arizona would like to wish everyone a Happy Diwali and Hindu New Year!
