Katalyst Shoulder Training 3D Rotational Training for Optimal Shoulder Health and Performance THE PROBLEM – Arm Injuries
Overhead sport athletes (e.g.

baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis, swimming) are highly vulnerable to arm injuries that:

THE CAUSE – Extreme Stresses
Most arm injuries are related to extreme stresses (created by overhead motions) that push the musculoskeletal syste

♦ get amplified by poor mechanics
♦ increase with the onset of fatigue

THE SOLUTION – Movement Efficiency
Efficient movements require a synchronized chain reaction that precisely coordinates the amount, duration, timing, and sequencing of muscular forces which:
♦ optimizes the use of muscular forces
♦ reduces the effort needed to execute movement
♦ minimizes stresses throughout the entire body, particularly the shoulder and elbow

THE PROOF – The Chain Reaction
Overhead sport athletes who have an efficient chain reaction:
♦ use less muscular effort to execute movements
♦ create less stress on the shoulder and elbow
♦ achieve faster arm speeds
♦ experience fewer injuries

THE STRATEGY – Building the Chain Reaction
The neuromuscular coordination that produces efficient movement - the chain reaction - must be learned and practiced so that it becomes automatic. To facilitate this process, you must:
♦ use exercises that simulate actual overhead sport motions (Specificity of Training Principle)

These 2 were so excited and get very special, which they are.

The girls loved the games, donuts, hot chocolate, and they even got to decorate a stuffed narwhal.

Opportunities to get a pitch down the middle may fewer at the big league level, but that’s why it’s so important to be ready when they throw it where you want it.

I have found that most kids today are afraid of failing.

They’re afraid of putting all of their effort into something and coming up short.

This can cause them to be timid or worse...cause them to not even try.

I have seen this with my own son and is a driving force in my creation of .

We teach them how to develop the 5 key concepts to success...
1️⃣ Establish a goal.
2️⃣ Surround yourself with people who have the same goals.

I got a chance to get out and have some fun with about 350 kids during a Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) baseball camp.

I even got to catch up with some familiar faces, Jon Nunnally and fellow Sun Devil Baseball alum Josh Spence.

Nun was a hitting coach with the Indians, and while I never played for him, he was someone I loved talking hitting with.

I’m excited for our nutrition challenge this year because I have fallen off track between all the business stuff going on and the addition of our 4th kid.

Each year we do a nutrition challenge as a community (it’s also open to non DRC members).

We divide everyone up into 6 teams. A big reason we do a team challenge is because there are no self-made people; you need a solid team around you to succeed.

This is one of my favorite teammates ever.

and I only played one year together, but I’d do anything for this guy.

We became close while we were both in AAA with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

My favorite memory is during a game in which I attempted to play all 9 positions.

The game ended up getting called due to rain in after the top of the 9th inning just before I was supposed to catch, but I ended up getting the save because of it.

The best part is, when I came into pitch I replaced Jumbo on the mound and our manager put Jumbo in at 2nd base.

Picture a NFL offensive lineman playing 2nd base.

He ended up getting an at bat and somehow managed to get to 2nd base.

Out of nowhere he decided to steal 3rd base.

The entire stadium was in shock and I remember out dugout erupting with laughter and excitement.

It has been quite a challenge getting them up for breakfast, dressed, lunches made, out the door for school, picked up, dinner made, showers, teeth brushed, and in bed.
• • •
Oh and did I mention I’m doing that while running a gym and launching 3 programs...

They are both emotionally challenging and emotionally rewarding at the same time.

The emotionally challenging moments have brought some memorable quotes from both girls.

As difficult as these moments can be, the flip side of their emotions far outweigh the challenges.

Dead Red Conditioning this is a foundational component we teach all our athletes.

Here are the steps we teach them in this progressive order...
1️⃣ Ankle Extension - Initiate by pushing through the full foot, then as the hips and shoulders rise, drive through your big toes and raise your heels off the ground as much as possible.
2️⃣ Knee Extension - As the heels start to raise off the ground, fully straighten your legs.
3️⃣ As your legs start to straighten, squeeze your glutes together as hard as you can.

The harder you push into the ground and drive your head up, the more aggressively you’ll be able to straighten your legs and squeeze your glutes.

This allows you to jump higher, run faster, move quicker, hit with more power, and throw harder.
