The Mango team travels for up to two months each year guiding and scouting new properties so we can continue to expand and improve our knowledge of this region of the world. Hello everyone,

We are so please that you will be joining us tomorrow, April 3, at the Oregon Zoo for a special celebration With Mango African Safaris!

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for mingling and snacks, and the remarks will begin promptly at 5:30 p.m.

The gathering is being held in Conservation Hall at the education center (please see attached map). There is a bit of construction happening at the entrance to Washington Park, but the parking lot is still accessible. Don’t for get to pay.

On behalf of both Mango African Safaris and the Oregon Zoo Foundation, we look forward to seeing at the zoo you soon!

Ever been to a rhino baby shower?

In early December, the Oregon Zoo's rhinoceros family grew by about 100 pounds. Now Tamu, whose name means “sweet” in Swahili, is growing bigger and more playful every day.

Boy oh boy, you never know what surprises the bush has in store for you! A client recently had a once in a lifetime experience when the wind blew his hat off while sitting in the vehicle, watching a pride of lions.

It turns out that lions are also big fans of Tilley hats and they had quite a good time playing keep away with it. Luckily for John, they eventually tired of their new toy and left it behind as they moved on.

The guide was able to hop out and save the battered hat. John reports that Tilley have honored their lifetime guarantee, despite the lions really embracing the concept of 'wear and tear'.

It’s official, I am a beach person.

Safaris are filled with exciting early mornings and nights around the camp fire watching the stars. Spending a few days at the coast after that just feels perfect. Mozambique offers a beautiful combination of sea and sand. Sailing calm peaceful waters to watch the sunset. Long walks on the beach shell collecting. This gives me space and time to really slow down and recharge for life. I strive to hold onto that clarity and contentment as long as possible as I reengage in life.

My favorite safari job in Africa. The grass airstrip at Gorongosa offers smooth landings but poses other challenges. Grazers like warthogs and impala love the open environment. So much so that this kind gentleman has the esteemed job to keep the runway clear and safe. He used to ride a bicycle to escort the wildlife off the airstrip. Now he has a motorbike. It took him 5 passes before we were clear for take off. We were crying with laughter experiencing it.
