NC State Dance Program The NC State Dance Program gives students the opportunity to study dance through direct experience in choreography and performance.

You don't want to miss this master class! ❤️✨José Velasquez will lead a hip-hop class TONIGHT, Thursday, Oct. 5, from 5:30 - 6:45 p.m. that will cover the basics of bouncing and rocking and how they apply to different steps from old to new school.

Dancers will explore different rhythms, patterns, and concepts to expand on creativity and find freedom in movement. The class will conclude with a freestyle cypher to allow students to apply what they learned in class.

⭐ Master Classes are free and open to all NC State students, faculty, and staff. Space is limited, and preregistration is required.

Senior Spotlight: Olivia Prevost
Olivia Prevost is a senior studying nutrition science and minoring in dance. This will be her fifth year with Panoramic Dance Project and has done multiple Independent Studies to choreograph for fall and spring dance concerts. Off campus, Olivia teaches high school dance students at a local studio, focusing mainly on modern, jazz, and hip hop.

We're so excited to have seven works by student choreographers (Evanna Edward, Emma Callicutt, Olivia Prevost, Drew Chavis, Madison Kotyra, Kara Pawlowski, Rachel Morris, and Taiylor Wade) in our Fall Concert Nov. 17-18!

A member of the Lumbee tribe, Drew Chavis will be using her solo to bring attention to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) movement, while Taiylor Wade’s piece is an exploration of the perception of femininity in contrast with the performance of femininity. Additionally, In a group piece, Rachel Morris explores how different Enneagram types can affect one another.

T-minus three days until our Fall 2022 Master Class! Our last Master Class of the semester, Movement Is Necessary With David Dorfman Dance and Company, will take place Wednesday, Nov. 9, 4:30-6:30 p.m.

During the class, Dorfman will teach the importance of moving our bodies—in any way, shape, or form. By employing improvisation combined with choreographed sequences, dancers of all ages and experiences can find joy and discovery in this workshop.

More about the class... For David Dorfman Dance’s newest creation, (A)Way Out of My Body, movement of our precious bodies—in any way, shape or form—becomes all important. In our unpredictable world, filled with daily obstacles of all kinds, how do we navigate toward positive change, resilience and empathic behavior? Our answer is to dance through life with each other safely and with magical risk appropriate for the occasion. We need to move in new directions — discover paths we have only dreamt of. By employing improvisation combined with choreographed sequences, dancers of all ages and experiences can find joy and discovery in this workshop. We will have fun.

Join us in wishing luck to dance faculty members Autumn Mist Belk and Tara Z. Mullins, along with Associate Medical Director of Campus Health, Courtney Hinton, who are presenting at the annual IADMS - International Association for Dance Medicine & Science in Limerick, Ireland, this weekend!

During our Fall Concert on Nov. 17 and 18, The State Dance Company will premiere a piece choreographed by local artist Davian “D.J.” Robinson who lost his sight as a child. Robinson’s work explores dance beyond the visual dimension and brings attention to the need to make dance more accessible and inclusive.
