It's coming, and it's time to talk about it.

Snow and rain. Sunday late afternoon through late Monday into early Tuesday morning. This is a slow moving system along a front that will bring mostly rain to the region with snow likely in the far north.

I do not expect this to be a plowable event at this time, and this will likely result in snow for the higher elevations and accumulation on grass. Some forecast models say otherwise, but we are staying conservative with this one being the first and the lack of cold air.

Speaking of cold air... its coming. Today is the absolute last nice day of 2023 for the foreseeable future.

Halloween, while fairly dry with some very scattered showers, will top out with an average high of 50 during the day, meaning that those trick-or-treat temperatures will likely be in the mid to high 40s.

Well there! My first image of 2023 in the books! Last night after work I drove to Abol Bridge to photograph Mt Katahdin as the moon came up to see how it would come out. Moonrise was 8:49pm and I arrived at the bridge around 8:00. The temp on the bridge was exactly zero degrees and the trees on the Golden Road glistened in the headlights on the ride in. The stars just hung in the sky before the moon came up making me feel like I could reach up and touch them. I made a few exposures in the darkness and went back to the truck to warm up and wait for the moon. At 9:20 I stepped out of the truck and walked back on the bridge as the moon was rising up behind the trees to the right hitting the landscape and the mountain with beautiful side light. I shot this as a 6 shot panorama starting from the left and working my way right. You can see the Northern end of the milky way to the left of the image along with the big dipper hanging above the mountain. It was an absolute beautiful night under the stars! I hope you all enjoy! GREENVILLE — Pilots from across Maine and the country are expected to attend the popular International Seaplane Fly-In from Sept. 8-11, which also draws some of the biggest crowds of the season to the Moosehead Lake region.
