Yesterday I had a great conversation with director of sustainability at Natural Habitat Adventures]] , one of very favorite travel partners.
Conservation and sustainability are at the core of everything Natural Habitat Adventures]] does, and they have been leaders in the sustainable travel space since they began in 1985.
The have partnered with since 2003. They were the first travel company to become carbon neutral (back in 2007!) and have recently introduced zero-waste expeditions.
My conversation with Court reminded me of the vast potential for travel to do good.
TRAVELERS: you have a tremendous amount of power to positively influence the industry and world by choosing to travel with companies who are committed to sustainability, like Natural Habitat Adventures]]

Despite recent setbacks, I believe our industry is on its way to a conscious comeback and is destined for a sustainable future.

I struggle with how to effectively talk about climate change and the urgent need for action.
My guess is that half of you have already stopped reading. This is not an attempt to judge or shame. In fact, I completely understand the desire to turn away. When problems feel too big or overwhelming it is natural to feel powerless. I, myself, often contend with feelings of powerlessness and hopelessness when thinking about climate change and my ability to make a difference. However, I am learning to exist with these feelings and to keep going because, ultimately, I believe this is a fight that can still be won.
This photo is from my recent trip to Kona. We visited a beautiful rainforest and took several moments to stand silently amongst the trees.
I feel most connected to life and presence in the woods. Perhaps because forests have tremendous restorative power. Consider these facts from the recent UN IPCC report:
- 23% of global human-caused emissions come from land-change use (agriculture, forestry, etc).
- However, despite increased deforestation, the world’s forests and lands act as an incredible carbon sink. Forests and lands removed an estimated 6 gigatons of CO2 per year from 2007 to 2016. This is equivalent to the annual GHG emissions of the United States.
- However, continued deforestation and land degradation will chip away at this carbon sink.
- Conserving and regrowing our world’s forests are essential to the fight against climate change.
- We must cut absolute emissions while preserving and bolstering our carbon sinks.
Take some time to think about the awesome restorative power of trees the next time you find yourself in the magical woods.

I have had the good fortune of seeing lots of brown bears during my travels: grizzly sightings in Wyoming, Montana, Canada, and, of course, Alaska. But hands-down, no contest, the best bear viewing I’ve ever experienced was in British Columbia The Chilko Experience]
In September and October grizzlies from all over the region descend upon the area to feast on spawning salmon. It is an incredible spectacle to behold.
I was there in 2019 at the beginning of bear season. The grizzlies were just starting to arrive and I believe we saw 20+ during our 5-day stay. During the height of the season (mid-September through mid-October), you can see 20+ in one day!
They are so abundant that they become a familiar part of the stunning natural backdrop that Chilko provides: bears grazing on the grass in front of your lodge (until the dogs chase them off!), bears on the shore of Chilko Lake while you paddle by in your kayak, bears in the field by the side of the road as you zoom by on your ATV.
As Phil, the owner of Chilko, likes to say, these bears have an “all you can eat buffet of salmon” and are completely uninterested in you. So, in spite of their size, being around them feels surprisingly comfortable and very safe (however, if you decide to do something stupid like sneak up on a sow and tickle her cub, all bets are off and it was nice knowing you!).
Chilko is a true wilderness experience - remote, expansive, and stunningly beautiful. If you’ve ever been to Yellowstone, where there are often 30 cars on one bear, Chilko is the east opposite: just you, your guide, and several bears. Calling all Safari junkies!!! This is your bear-viewing experience!
I am not aware of a better value at a luxury wilderness lodge in Alaska or Canada and there is a still space in September and October of this year.
If you are ready to experience pristine wilderness and lots and lots of bears, reach out! Let’s get you to The Chilko Experience]

Thank you so much for these beautiful photos of our sweet little family 🥰
I haven’t had professional family pictures taken since Ruby’s dad and I decided to amicably split nearly 4 years ago, so this was a real treat! Brian and I share 50/50 custody of Ruby and remain friends and collaborative co-parents. That means that 50% of the time I’m a solo parent and the other 50% I miss her like crazy but also have the time and space to travel and focus on growing my business and finishing my graduate studies. It also means that the time we do have together is extra precious and special.
did such a beautiful job of capturing the depth and sweetness of our bond and made the whole experience fun and comfortable. I highly recommend booking a session with her if you are headed to the Big Island (book early as her schedule fills up fast)!
Thank you for providing such a stunning backdrop 😍

My last set of Alaska clients (for this summer season) took off today!
Their itinerary will include bear viewing, fishing, ATV riding, and heli-hiking.
They will be staying at two phenomenal and sustainable back-country lodges.
First up -
Where they will have exclusive access to some of most impressive wildlife and scenery.
And then - which remains one of my favorite lodges In the world!Alaska at its absolute best!

To truly experience Alaska, you must get off the main road system and into the backcountry. Remember, only 20% of Alaska is accessible by road!
Now is the time to start planning for 2022, as the best, remote lodges are small and fill up quickly. Let’s start planning you Alaska Adventure!

A shot from my amazing dive with Big Island Divers] a couple of nights ago. In addition to seeing several huge mantas, we were lucky enough to be visited by a pod of false killer whales!
I am still a beginner diver and experience a wave of fear every time I enter the water. Part of what I love about diving is feeling the fear and making the decision to dive anyway.
I am in awe of the phenomenal dive masters I’ve been fortunate enough to go in the water with. Their patience, confidence, and compassion allows me to move through my fear and enjoy the magic of the ocean. Thank you for such an amazing dive!!!
I highly recommended the manta night dive with Big Island Divers] on your next trip to the wonderful Big Island!

Honored does not begin to describe how I felt accepting the 2021 Virtuoso Luminaries, Leaders, and Legends Environmental Award at last night’s gala.
Thank you for this recognition.

Earlier this week the UN IPCC released a devastating report on climate change. In the face of such alarming news, it is natural to feel hopeless, despondent, and defeated. However, giving into such feelings is, in part, what has led us to this place.
We need to take a different approach.
Each and everyone of us must commit, right now, to being a part of the solution. I believe everyone has a unique ability to contribute and make a difference. If you are wondering how to begin, please reach out. Let’s have a conversation.
Together we can solve this crisis and usher the travel industry and world into a new era of responsibility.

I am profoundly honored to have been selected as a 2021 Climate Corps Fellow! 🌍

I just completed a week of training with a cohort of dedicated, passionate sustainability students and professionals. In our discussions and seminars, we tackled issues relating to climate change and sustainability. I am brimming with enthusiasm, and can’t wait to apply what I’ve learned to my work as a climate fellow and travel professional.

I am committed to working toward a more sustainable path forward for the travel industry. Every day I interact with colleagues who care deeply about our planet and it’s people and are taking meaningful action toward sustainability.  However, there remains a persistent lack of a universally understood definition of sustainable travel as well as a verifiable way to measure it.

My sincerest hope is to see the industry move forward on defining and measuring sustainability by doing the following:
1. Implementing top-down, science-based targets around carbon and waste reduction as well as water usage.
2. Developing tourism in emerging markets with much greater consciousness, forethought and, most importantly, local stakeholder engagement.
Economic growth will always be a piece but must not be the whole pie. We must account for the preservation of ecosystems, natural capital, culture and community well-being. These things need to be valued as much, if not more, than economic gain.
3. Establishing a pathway to net-zero. This is mission critical. Though our sustainability issues extend far beyond reliance on carbon, CO2e levels pose the greatest immediate threat to our earth and life as we know it. We must solve climate change if we are to progress as an industry and as a civilization.

The challenges we face are daunting, but not impossible to solve. The work I am doing as an Climate Corp fellow allows me to see that change is possible. The solutions to our most pressing problems are out there, just waiting to be discovered.  I am thrilled to be part of this discovery!

Alright folks, we’ve reached the end of my French Polynesia content (for now at least).
is my most requested resort on Bora Bora and for good reason! It is absolutely gorgeous and certainly the most photogenic of the Bora Bora resorts.
This resort has my favorite beach and spa and I’m a for the awesome plunge pool overwater bungalows.
The is on a totally different part of the island than the other resorts we visited and pairs really well with the Four Seasons, St. Regis or IC Thalasso for a more varied Bora Bora experience.

05/26/2021

Enjoy this fabulous tour of a St. Regis Otemanu overwater bungalow. The St. Regis bungalows are the most spacious on Bora Bora and absolutely stunning. I love the expansive grounds of this property as well as the wonderful staff and fantastic food! This is a perfect haven 😍
Contact me to learn more about the 5th night free, half-board promotion - definitely the best value to be found on Bora Bora at the moment.
Thanks for the awesome video 😉

05/25/2021

For the best Otemanu views in Bora Bora head over to IC Thalasso. Seriously, the view from my bungalow took my breath away. I made sure to wake up early enough to catch the sunrise and capture this video.
There is plenty else to love about this resort including the world-famous spa and exceptionally warm staff. IC Thalasso was one of my faves in Bora Bora!

So I know I said “there is no such thing as a perfect resort” in an earlier post, however, comes pretty darn close.
I loved everything about this resort: the bungalows (all are overwater except for a few multi room beach villas which are perfect for families!) the food, the grounds, the offerings (paddle board yoga with Sarah was a true highlight!) and, of course, the famous Four Seasons service.
If you are searching for the best of the best on Bora Bora, look no further than
Of course, my preferred partner amenities sweeten the deal 😉

The resort has a sophisticated but laidback vibe that I love. Great beach bungalow options and excellent food and service. is your perfect home base from which to explore the beautiful island of Moorea!

Next up in our French Polynesia resort recap is the beautiful
First off - spending time on Moorea is absolutely essential. This lush, green island offers a variety of interior activities such as hiking, atv exploring and fresh water swimming. Plus, it’s only 30 minutes from Tahiti via ferry!
There are many reasons to love - beautiful grounds, breathtaking views, crystal clear waters. It also has the best room product on Moorea. There are beautiful overwater bungalows, which you may be very tempted to stay in (I stayed in one!). However, I suggest staying in one their beautiful plunge pool, garden bungalows instead (pictured). This will offer more room variety during your stay in Polynesia, and will allow you to save more of your budget for a higher category of overwater bungalow in Bora Bora (larger, better view and views are important!).
Do you have questions about or planning a special trip to or ? Reach out via dm or email! I’d love to help you find the perfect resort 🏝

While I’m skeptical of any one resort being absolutely perfect in every way, I do believe that certain resorts are perfect for certain travelers.
I had the pleasure of experiencing several of the top resorts in Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora during my recent 10-day trip and thought I’d spend the next week or so highlighting my favorites!
First up: The Intercontinental Resort Tahiti!
Less than 10 min from the airport, this is the perfect resort to relax, recover from jet lag and kick off your stay in French Polynesia.
Pro tip: if arriving in the AM (such as the Air Tahiti Nui flight from LAX) book a room for the night before so you have a fresh, clean bed waiting for you when you land. Alternatively, you can freshen up in one of their transit rooms until check/in time!

I’m not going to lie, adjusting to normal life after 10 blissful days in French Polynesia is not fun 😕
I woke up to an email from United advertising the lowest ticket prices to Tahiti in years - I was super tempted to book a return (under 1k from SFO, non-stop, round trip).
There are many reasons to visit French Polynesia this summer:
1. It’s one of the best and safest travel options for the Covid conscious. Rates are super low. All travelers must be vaccinated and test negative to enter. Virtually all of your activities are outdoors.
2. It is the most perfect tropical paradise you can imagine. It’s sometimes hard to believe it’s real. Pictures do not do it justice. You will be amazed, I promise.
3. It is unbelievably romantic. It is one of the most sought after honeymoon/ anniversary destinations in the world for good reason. I keep thinking of everyone who had to cancel or delay their honeymoon plans due to COVID. I would love nothing more than to help you all get to Bora Bora to finally celebrate. It is the perfect place to spend your honeymoon.
4. I love Hawaii but it gets 10x the visitors that French Polynesia does! If you are searching for a more personal and intimate beach destination look no further than the Tahitian Islands.
5. There is more to do than you think for the active traveler! I hiked, dived, snorkeled (best snorkeling of my life in fact), swam with sharks and rays, and paddled. There is also jet skiing, kayaking, atvs and more! And trust me when I tell you that you are going to want to do more lounging and relaxing than you might expect.
6. It is an easy flight from SFO to LAX. Under 8 hours. You fall asleep and you wake up in Paradise. There are entry/ testing requirements, but it is very doable. I can walk you through every step.
8. It is nourishment for the soul. This was my first trip in over a year. I generally take 3 or 4 international trips a year. I did not realize how much I missed travel until I once again found myself in new surroundings, making new friends, experiencing a new culture and thanking my lucky stars for a career and life that I love.
