Our group on summit day, Why summit at night?

There are many reasons;

1. Reduced Oxygen at higher altitudes,
Normally the last Camps before the summit are Barafu Camp (15,330 ft) or Kosovo Camp (15,978 ft) sleeping here will cause labored breathing 😮‍💨 because of the reduced oxygen levels, hence it is wise to take some steps towards the Uhuru peak, the journey takes about 13-15 hours to the summit instead of suffering from the shortage of oxygen is better to start the hiking journey early.

2. You’ll get the perfect view of sunrise 🌅 above the Kilimanjaro’s skies 🌌.

3. The hiking trail is better at night than at a daytime, usually during the night the trail sometimes can be covered with snow since the trail is volcanic sand it’s easy to walk through before the freezes goes away.

Climb Preparation

How to prepare

Climbing Kilimanjaro is a challenging and physically demanding undertaking, so proper preparation is crucial for success. Here are a few key things to consider as you prepare for your climb:

Physical Fitness: Kilimanjaro is a demanding hike that requires a good level of overall fitness. You should be comfortable walking long distances, carrying a backpack, and climbing steep terrain. Before your climb, it is important to start a regular exercise routine that includes cardio and strength training.

Altitude Training: The secret to climbing Kilimanjaro is getting acclimated to the high altitude. The higher altitude of Kilimanjaro can be challenging for some people, so it's important to prepare your body as much as possible. You can do this by training at altitude, or by using a hypoxic training mask. By doing this, you can help your body acclimate to the thinner air and reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

Gear: Having the right gear is crucial for a successful and comfortable climb. Make sure you have all the necessary clothing and equipment, including warm layers, waterproof gear, good hiking boots, and a good-quality backpack.

Choosing the right company: Choosing a reputable and experienced guide company like Kilimanjaro Advisor is crucial for a successful and safe climb. Our guides are highly experienced and have a wealth of knowledge about the mountain, the routes, and the conditions. They will provide you with the support and guidance you need to make it to the summit.

By following these preparation tips, you will be well on your way to a successful and safe climb of Kilimanjaro. At Kilimanjaro Advisor, we will also provide you with detailed information about the climb and the gear you will need so that you can prepare for the climb with confidence.

At Kilimanjaro Advisor, Your safety is our top priority. We take several steps to ensure that our clients have a safe and successful climb. Here are four effective safety protocols that we use:

Acclimatization: We believe that acclimatization is key to avoiding altitude sickness. That's why we use a slower, more gradual ascent schedule that allows our clients to acclimatize to the altitude before reaching the summit. This helps to minimize the risk of altitude sickness and increases the chances of a successful climb.

Medical Support: We have a team of trained guides who are skilled in dealing with altitude sickness and other medical issues that may arise during the climb. They carry oxygen tanks, altitude sickness medication, and other emergency medical supplies to ensure that our clients are well taken care of.

Weather Monitoring: We closely monitor the weather conditions on the mountain and make adjustments to the itinerary as necessary to ensure the safety of our clients. This may include adjusting the climb itinerary, or even canceling the climb if the weather is too dangerous.

Risk Management: We have a comprehensive risk management plan in place that covers everything from emergency evacuation procedures to managing the risk of accidents and injuries. Our guides are trained to handle emergency situations, and we have a network of support services in place to ensure that our clients are safe and well taken care of at all times.

By implementing these safety protocols, we aim to provide our clients with a safe and enjoyable climb on Mount Kilimanjaro, while minimizing the risk of injury or illness. We are always looking for ways to improve our safety practices, and we take the responsibility of ensuring the safety of our clients very seriously.

Climbing Kilimanjaro is a challenging and physically demanding endeavor, and there are inherent risks involved. However, with proper planning, preparation, and the right guide, it can be a safe and enjoyable experience.

When climbing Kilimanjaro, there are several potential dangers that hikers may face. These include altitude sickness, hypothermia, frostbite, dehydration, and falls. Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), occurs when hikers ascend too quickly and their bodies are unable to adjust to the lower levels of oxygen at high elevations. Symptoms include headache, nausea, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. To minimize the risk of altitude sickness, hikers should acclimatize gradually and avoid ascending too quickly.

AMS can be a serious condition if not treated properly, and it can even lead to life-threatening conditions such as high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) or high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). That's why it is extremely important to be aware of the symptoms of AMS and to take the necessary precautions to minimize the risks.

At .Advisor, we take the safety of our clients very seriously. We take the time to educate our clients about the risks of AMS and the importance of proper acclimatization. We also provide our clients with the necessary medication to help prevent and treat AMS, such as Diamox.

Additionally, we have a team of experienced guides and porters who are trained to recognize the symptoms of AMS and to respond appropriately. They also ensure that our clients are properly hydrated, fed and have enough rest time.

We also recommend a slow and steady ascent to the summit, which allows the body to acclimatize properly, and we always have a guide trained in wilderness first aid and a portable oxygen tank with us.
