Very cool that the F/V Hukilau was featured in the Daily Sitka Sentinel newspaper. This family boat has made a lot of dreams come true. First with Uncle Chuck Olson and now with Cousins Matt and Sidney running the Hukilau, we are always happy to see it working!

After almost 4 months away from home Daddys finally back. My nest is full again and we can get back to living life. Props to all the ohanas that have to be apart and still come out together. I just read the press release from Wild Fish Conservancy about halting the Trolling in Alaska. It is so inaccurate and untrue. I couldnt even finish it, it upset me so much. They are recommending terminating commercial salmon harvests. Right now this is about trollers but will it stop there? When their idea doesnt work and the orcas are still declining. Will they admit that the idea was wrong? Or will they come after the next gear type and the next and the next? This isnt only an attack on trollers but all small commercial fishermen.

This will truely devastate many families that rely on King trolling. Its a sad day when another state can shut down a sustainably responsible fishery.

A federal judge issued an order Tuesday voiding an environmental review that helped authorize the small-scale fishery, a $30 million industry that employs hundreds of people in Southeast Alaska.

They are at serious risk in having their fishery shut down and here is a great opportunity to show them we care and how much we need them in Sitka.

It’s January 2023! Right around this time of year we start preparing for our next Alaska fishing season. Takes a lot of planning to get the family ready, find a house sitter for the animals, prepare the boat with any new projects, new nets and whatever else needs to done. It also brings that feeling of excitement that the whole family feels. That ready to fish feeling! Oh and we cant forget we got a graduate this year. Our little badass deckhand will be graduating from Kapaa High School in May then she will be fishing with her daddy again this summer.
