Redwood Middle School Viking Band

Band Director: Mr. Adam Payne. Beginning Band is for students with no experience or less than one year of elementary band.

The Redwood Band program is made up of Beginning Band, Concert (Intermediate) Band, Advanced Band (Advanced Band 2), Symphonic (Advanced Band 1), Jazz Band and the combined Viking Marching Band. Concert Band is our intermediate group and is for students with more than one year of band exeperience or private lessons. Students who already play an instrument but want try a new instrument should still

sign up for this class. Symphonic Band- This is our advanced band and is intended for students with 2 years or more of experience. This class is only open to 7th and 8th graders. Jazz Band- A weekly after-school program for students enrolled in the band program. It includes instruments not traditionally found in the concert classes such as electric guitar, electric bass, piano and drumset. Viking Marching Band- In the springtime, our Beginning, Concert and Symphonic Bands combine to form the award winning Viking Marching Band. We perform in many Southern California parades as well as public venues such as Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and Universal Studios. In competition, the Viking Band is undefeated for the last 8 years!

In 2018 the Redwood Band performed in the Monterey Park “Play Days” Parade. It was a great parade and a wonderful community.

2022 County Ventura St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Two years ago, schools and most of the world shut down one day before the Ventura St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The students in that band put in a lot of hard work and never got the chance to perform. Last year, there were no parades, marching practices or anything. Today, a band made up of an amazing core of 8th graders with a majority of 6th and 7th graders performed their first parade as the full Redwood Viking Band! We are so proud of these kids and what they grew into in just the last few days! The crowd was blown away!
