Bizarre plug but I just have to let everyone know about our annual Labor Day Day booking vacuum…right now I have space available on September 2nd, mostly because I think people assume the holiday is already full! Let Matt know if you’d like to spend your long weekend out fishing, otherwise it might be our reason to escape to the Alaska State Fair!

Holy Hypomelanosis Halibut…say that 6 times fast. While the blind side of most flatfish is normally white, with the ocular side holding camouflaging color, this one might have missed the memo. Variety keeps it interesting, with one big patch of pigment missing up top!

Mid-season mark! This time of year, it can be tough to get a hold of us in the office…charters everyday, many of them extended over night trips. Please, please feel free to leave detailed texts at 907-440-9510! It’s often hard to hear voicemails over the waves, engines and of course with all the wonderful conversations and activity already happening on the boats! Awesome picture of Captain Paige with a nice lingcod…fishing is the main mission and we will try to get back to calls as soon as we're back at the dock!

Been stuck with some storms that kept the Whittier fleet off the water on Saturday. Thankfully, back at it today. As you can see, rain gear comes in handy…keeping you dry and often offering the added bonus of helping you coordinate with your catch.

Nice fish from the Swee’ Pea! I feel awful because I’ve been talking to a lot of nice people and telling them we’re full on August 8th…well, a party has had to release their seats and now I have probably the last boat open in Whittier for another prime day. THURSDAY 8/8…I have to be back at winter work, otherwise I’d claim it for a family trip! Fishing has been fantastic and the silvers are around making it a perfect time for multi species LUCK.🍀

More lingcod from the Swee’ Pea…they’re really gorgeous when they first come up with amazing orange scales, sometimes even they’re even laced with turquoise like the color of weathered copper. A crazy blend of fish meets eel meets fantasy book dragon, just aggressive looking in attitude and appearance!

There’s really no place in the world our captains and deckhands would want to be but on the water, rain or shine. But the sea is still very much in charge. From time to time, storms and weather come up and we occasionally have to cancel for safety’s sake. We understand a halibut charter is often a once-in-lifetime, “bucket list” trip and it’s very hard to hear your day has ended at the dock. Let me tell you: we’re ALWAYS going to err on the side of caution. You can’t chase dreams of big fish if you ignore the warnings of the wind and waves! Yeah, the “bucket list” is great (I have a pretty awesome one myself!), but we’d rather NOT help you meet the need for it prematurely!

This calm-as-can-be halibut seemed to instinctively KNOW that the angler already filled her limit. Yeah, I added the sad violin music for comic effect. But, as you can see, Captain Matt, Kelsey and everybody else onboard really enjoyed the experience of seeing her slip quietly back to the bottom! Another day’s fight or future generations of halibut?
