Check out the gorgeous marine layer coming into town! A marine layer is formed over bodies of water, due to the cool water temp being met with the hot summer air, creating water vapor! Hope you're all enjoying the beautiful day 😍 with gratitude, #discoveryachats
If you have ever explored our rocky coastline, you've undoubtedly heard the sweet call of our local Black Oystercatchers!
These shore birds were named Oystercatchers back in 1731 when they were first documented, eating oysters of course!
Black Oystercatchers can live upwards of 15 years, and are monogamous, laying eggs in the same nest every year.
#Discoveryachats this summer to hear their distinct beautiful call mingling with the crashing waves 😍🌊

It's a gorgeous and tumultuous Tuesday, here in the gem of the Oregon Coast 💙🌲🌊 Stay safe out there, when you #discoveryachats! Never turn your back on the ocean, and be extra aware of heightened seas and sneaker waves now that we are in the stormy seasons!
A cozy coastal moment for those who need it 🥰💙🌊
Don't forget a deep breath of salty sea air!
No matter the weather, it's a beautiful day to #discoveryachats
Let's spend a few moments at Smelt Sands on this beautiful and rainy Monday 💙🌊💙

The wind is a bit chilly today so grab your jacket and let's head down to the tidepools for this weeks #tidepooltuesday !
Ooh, see that movement in the pool ahead? It's a Crystal Jellyfish, Aequorea victoria 😍
Normally jellies aren't an active part of the rocky tidepooling experience, but here and there they can unintentionally get stuck in a pool during the tide changes, which is what @steviethevagabond recorded in this video!
Crystal Jellyfish are particularly cool because they house specialized light producing organs that surround the edge of their bell-they give off a blue-green hued bioluminescent glow at night if they're disturbed in any way.
Their bioluminescence is actually being used in scientific studies almost as a highlighter of sorts, which help researchers study various genes easier!
Thanks so much for exploring with us today, and thanks so much to Steve for the awesome video clip and for tagging us 💙🌲🌊 #discoveryachats
Wind, rain, thunder and lightning overnight. A break in the action, but still rough out there.
Boats. Waves. This sunset.
What else is there to say? 🌅

High Tide & High Surf Advisory. Video from Smelt Sands.
The central coast is under a High Surf Advisory until 7:00 pm tonight (Feb 26th). Wave heights expected to reach 25 feet in places. The seas are very rough. Nice to watch from a distance, not safe to be on the beach until the waves subside.
