💚 New project 💚
We have been a little quiet lately, but we a back with a bang! 💥
It is an absolute honor to be able to introduce our newest project Public Health Program 🩺
This is for you who cares about health, nutrition and people who might not have the easiest acces to it 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 This project is about spreading awareness and educating about health and medical emergency preparedness 🧰 It’s a guiding hand for kids and adults in our community who does not have any medical aid systems 💚

Reaching Hands wants to wish you all a happy New Year - we hope that 2022 is gonna be a good and joyful year for everyone 🙏🏽
We are kicking this new year off with a big promotion! 🥳 If you book your volunteer trip now you get 15% off the price 🙌

💚 Covid update 💚
As all of you know, a new variant of the covid virus has been discovered by leading South African scientist. Unfortunately, as a consequence of this, new travel restrictions have been implemented in many countries making it more difficult to enter South Africa. This new variant effects all of our projects, partners and peers. At Reaching Hands we will take this time of uncertainty to ensure and tighten hygiene protocols so that we make sure that we are ready and prepared for when the world opens up again. We can’t wait!

💚 Meet the team 💚
Our wonderful and loving host mom Faye Alkana has been hosting since year 2000, and have had nearly 3000 volunteers staying in her house 🏡 Aslam, the host dad, and husband of Faye has an amazing sense of humor and he will surely make you laugh and feel comfortable 🥰
One of the core values at Faye’s house is that they equally treat everyone the same, and they hope you do the same with everyone who arrives at their home 🙏🏽
You will feel like this house is your second home where everyone shares a safe and communal space 💚

Our office administrator Eudene Moses is 28 years old and resides in Vrygrond, Cape Town 🇿🇦 She always had a passion for administration, she’s very confident in what she does and she loves her work! 🌻 Eudene has experience in office administration and ECD. Besides being a sweet and outspoken person, she also have a heart for her community and loves to give back to her peers 🙏🏽❤️

The most reliable and fun transport in South Africa! Please welcome the wonderful Tyrin and Desiree 🙏🏽 This lovely couple are in charge of all aspects of transportation 🚘 Everything from daily transportation to and from projects, airport transfers and tours around the country 🇿🇦 With years of experience in the tourist industry, transportation, and top quality vehicles – they will get you safely to your destinations, and will get you there with a smile on your face! 😁

Our other co-founder Malene’s first trip to Cape Town was back in 2015 where she first got acquainted to the charm and potential of South Africa 🇿🇦 She is currently finishing her bachelors degree in Innovation & Entrepreneurship and makes use of this education at Reaching Hands Volunteering 💚 She’s passionate about people and assisting where help is needed 🌻

💚 Hygiene protocol 💚
In these times hygiene is more important than ever. All of our projects and partners are doing their utmost best to follow rules and regulations regarding covid-19 hygiene protocols 🙏🏽
Masks are still mandatory to wear in public spaces in South Africa 😷
When you enter any placement your temperature is checked and hand sanitizer is always available 👏
We go the extra mile for the safety of our volunteers and partners as it is still very important to maintain a high level of hygiene 💚
Volunteers safety is always at the core of our attention!

💚 Covid-19 response program 💚
The pandemic hit hard last year and is still ongoing many places. Many people of Vrygrond are standing together and cooking nutritious meals for our peers 🥄At this program volunteers will help at the soup kitchens of the community 🥘 You will help with the making and dishing out of the food to the people. Furthermore you will assist in attaining new sponsorships and other fundraising initiatives to keep the soup kitchens running since they are almost 100% dependent on donations 🙏🏽
After working with the soup kitchens volunteers will assist in after school tutoring programs and workshops for the youth of Vrygrond 🇿🇦

💚 Surfing Project 💚
We are super excited to have partnered up with 🏄🏽 Beyond surfing lessons the academy also provide art workshops, life skills and mentoring for the youth of Vrygrond 🇿🇦
They care deeply about the societal safety and personal development of the youngsters which is why physical and mental health tutoring as well as raising awareness is a permanent part of the daily program at the lounge🌻
Because of their mindset and values Local Surf Lounge Academy has managed to be a safe space for the youth and a place for growth ☀️
At this project you can take part in the surfing activities, health workshops and assist the daily maintenance of the lounge. A perfect place for volunteers to contribute and benefit 🙏🏽
It’s an honor to have teamed up with them! 🤩

We are excited to announce our partnership with Butterfly Way Educare 💚🦋
Butterfly Way is an ECD center located in the front of Vrygrond and has been around for 14 years making it one of the oldest care placements in the area 🤩☀️
Penny, the principal of Butterfly Way, has a huge love for kids and have nurtured and educated hundreds of children with great passion 📚
We are honored and grateful to have Butterfly Way on board as one of our volunteer projects 🙏🏽🥳
