The Lighted Boat Parade will proceed as planned tonight in the Quay 6 basin as planned, and having taken the local weather conditions into account the final plan is as follows:
• The I&J Trawler with the band “Beatenberg” will be berthed against Jetty 2, on the end of the jetty.
• The parade of sail will be held in the Quay 6 basin, where the Clipper Yacht Fleet are berthed.
• The circulation of boats will be in an anti-clockwise direction.
• The radio monitoring channel is VHF 6.
• After the band has completed playing; the cannon society will fire six cannon shots.
Sailing Orders:
• Vessels from the V&A Marina, to slip and gather in the Quay 4 basin area around 19h00
• Try and do multiple exits on the two Bridge Openings.
• Vessels from RCYC to slip and gather in the Quay 7 basin, where the SA Agulhas ship is around 19h00.
• Follow the lead boat into the Quay 6 basin, on the signal broadcast on VHF 6 at 19h05.
• Sunset is 18h45, Solar sunset in 19h05, High water is 17h10, Low water is 23h30
• Yachts and boats to rotate thru the Quay 6 basin anticlockwise.
• As the basin fills, watch for small craft, and inflatable boats, and 2 dragon boats.
• The small craft have been briefed to berth in the Quay6 / Jetty 2 corner on the grey swimming ponds.
• Other craft to circulate and use all available space with the Victoria Basin.
• There is no open jetties or berths, so it will be necessary to drift and give way as required.
• Safe operating speed is what gives your rudder “bite” so please consider other craft.
• Do not tie mooring ropes onto the Transnet tugs
What to watch for:
• Transnet tugs and launches proceeding on tug duties
• Fishing Boats returning from Deep-sea fishing, heading for the Fish Quay
• Port Control on VHF 14 conducting normal operations in the Commercial Port
From my side there will be no formal instructions, but a monitoring role will be in place on VHF 14, VHF 6, and VHF 71.
Have a great evening and celebrate in a seamanship like manner, and safety first.
