Danger Point Lighthouse is seldom open to the public, but we were lucky to see it on a weekend commemorating the February 1852 demise of the Birkenhead troop ship nearby. About 450 chivalrous men lost their lives, after the call was made to allow women and children first on to the life rafts.

Haute Cabriere wine estate in Franschhoek is a great destination for a cellar tour and wine tasting. They're one of the few estates that perform the Sabrage, the art of opening a champagne (MCC) bottle with a sabre, after which you're allowed to taste it. None of my guests had seen the ceremony before and were delighted to experience it.

A destination like no other. Babylonstoren, a vast beautiful vegetable and fruit garden at the centre, as well as everything organic, natural and ethical you can think of from olive oil, olives, soaps, wine, bread, meats, cheeses and more. The list keeps growing, so much so that you can spend an entire day sampling it all.

Fabulous cellar tour at KWV in German with Brigitte. They have the oldest and biggest wooden vats in the country. Beautiful wines, 'ports' and brandies which my guests got to taste ̈dafrika
