Come and experience the feeling of adventure and achievement backpacking and climbing in a vast unspoilt wilderness well known for its unique features like the Wolfberg Cracks, the Wolfberg Arch, and the Maltese Cross. Enjoy the soaring peaks like the Tafelberg, Groot Krakadouw and the Sneeuberg with their cliffs, pinnacles, ravines and valleys. When hiking along the high trails, thrill to the eye-stretching sweep of the peaks marching into the blue haze of distance. Scout Patrols, where all Scouts are over the age of 15 and not yet turned 18 on the last day of the Adventure, qualify to enter. This is rigidly enforced except for the adult mountain ranger. Scouter Patrols, where all adults are over the age of 18 on the last day of the Adventure, may also enter.

The next Adventure takes place from 12-23 December 2024. The cost has been set at R5,300 for hiking participants and R1,100 for assigned mountain rangers who hike with a patrol. Further details are available at

The 24th Senior Scout Adventure 2024 is taking place from the 12th to the 23rd December 2024, just 18 months to go!! Three days longer, more adventure, more great activity bases and an exceptional opportunity for scouting camaraderie and spending quality time with your scouting buddies in the Cederberg mountains of the Western Cape.

The cost for the 2024 Adventure will be announced in December 2023 however, as a guide, the 2022 Adventure cost was R4,600 but of course it is necessary to bear in mind that the 2024 Adventure is three days longer and the increase in costs, has to be considered. Costs of transport to and from Cape Town to the Cederberg is included.

With just 18 months to go, this is now an ideal opportunity for troop scouters to get the Senior Scout Adventure on their COH agendas to start planning who is able to attend and start kicking off some fund raising activities in your Groups and communities to fund this adventurous endeavour. Don’t leave it to “T minus 1” and miss the boat. Bookings open on 1 April 2024. Remember, scout enthusiasm is a great prerequisite for effective funding.

The Senior Scout Adventure, which is the “cherry on the top of scouting” is the catalyst that will preserve all your fantastic scouting memories for the rest of your life.. so be there!!

The 24th edition of the Senior Scout Adventure is open to all scouts between 15 and 17 years of age. However if you are 18 years or older, and for some reason never had the opportunity or funding to take part in the past, you can cobble a team together from your ex-scouting buddies, form a team of over 18 year olds together, take part and re-kindle those scouting memories.

Let’s make the 24th Senior Scout Adventure circle bigger and SAVE THE DATES.

Save the dates for the Senior Scout Adventure 2024 in the Cederberg!

As the dusk of the Senior Scout Adventure 2022 memories starts to fade, we can now look forwards to the next Senior Scout Adventure 2024 in the Cederberg from the 12th to the 23rd December 2024. Three days longer, more adventure, more cool activity bases and an exceptional opportunity for Scouting fellowship and camaraderie in the Cederberg mountains of the Western Cape.

Past Adventure 2022 participants, spread the news of your awesome Adventure experience to all your Scouting peers and colleagues 15 years old and older, and let’s all make the Senior Scout Adventure circle bigger… and SAVE THE DATE!

Rod Harker: 06 July1940 – 30 April 2023

It is with saddend heart that we announce the passing of Rod Harker, who for the past 23 years has been a stalwart member of the Senior Scout Adventure Staff. Rod’s introduction to the Adventure started 1984 when he led a team from his Troop in KZN on the ’84 Adventure in the Witzenberg.

His first participation as a staff member was on the 2000 Adventure when he joined what was affectionately known as “The Cederberg Wireless Company”, a group of radio amateurs in the likes of the Late Buzz Macey, the Late Prof. Mike Case, Charles van der Spuy, and a few others whose role it was to set up radio links between all the Activity Centres.

Rod, Buzz and Mike all joined the then Post Office at the same time as apprentices, Rod being the only one to remain with the Utility and went on to head up the implementation of the National Microwave network for South Africa’s telephone coverage.

In addition to his involvement with the Adventure’s radio network he assumed the role of Quartermaster for the Adventure’s equipment leading up to the 2004 Adventure, a function that he undertook with passion and dedication, right to the very last. Late in 2003 he also took on the role of Operations Manager and joined the Adventure Committee during the preparation and planning for the 2004 Adventure. Over and above these two commitments, Rod’s unstinting involvement in the Adventure Advance Party from that time onwards was integral to the event “just happening”.

Rod was a man stepped in perfection and, being both the Quartermaster and Operations Manager he acquired a “bodily appendage” – the clipboard – whenever you saw Rod at an Adventure after that – it was with his clipboard, pencil and wide-brimmed hat – always checking and cross ticking something that had to be done or ensuring that correct equipment was delivered to each Activity Centre.

The thousands of Scouts, Guides and Adult Staff members who have being influenced by his involvement over the past ten Adventures would have benefited from his dedication, loyalty and passionate belief in the Values and Spirit of the Adventure.

Your beloved Cederberg will not be the same without you.

Rest in Peace Rod – we will miss you dearly.
