The Pilanesberg National Park, which covers some 55 000 hectare, is the fourth
largest in South Africa. This malaria-free park is perched on the eroded vestiges of an alkaline volcanic crater - one of only three such craters in the world.

Geologically, the area is world famous. Its structure, termed the "Pilanesberg National Park Alkaline Ring Complex" was formed by volcanic eruptions some 1200 million years ago.

The park boasts healthy populations of lion, leopard, black and white rhino , elephant and buffalo - Africa's "Big Five". A wide variety of rare and common species exist with endemic species like the brown hyaena, cheetah, sable, as well as
giraffe, zebra, hippo and crocodile, to mention but a few.

Apart from its unique size, shape and rock types, the volcanic origin and resultant weathering of the extinct crater has resulted in a wide variety of landscapes. This provides some of the most spectacular scenery in Southern Africa. It also provides a wide range of habitats for game animals. Because of this, the park has the potential to carry a wider
variety of game species than any other similar sized game reserve in Southern
Africa. Its potential for supporting rare and endangered species such as black rhino, roan, sable, tsessebe, foot-and-mouth free buffalo and wild dogs is particularly high.

6 TOWNSHIP TOURS BOOKINGS CANCELLED IN 2 DAYS in our company alone.

The criminal activities that are disguised as xenophobia have begun to affect the tourism industry.

Driving tourists around is our job. That's where our bread and butter comes from. That's where we get our cash to feed and send our kids to school. That's where we get cash to build our homes. That's where we get cash for all our needs. Not only us gain from tourists we drive around. Almost everyday when we take these tourists to townships, when we stop at squatters camps tourists hand out cash, food parcels, cloths, toiletries, etc to the poor and volunteer site guides.
Tourists pay entry fees in museums. Tourists buy wooden and stone crafts and lots of other things, including African cloths from the township vendors. Directly and indirectly everyone gains from each tourist that comes to South Africa. This is the economy the country needs.

Its so sad that these criminal activities are scaring tourists away.

I don't even understand why the government refer to these satanic criminal activities as xenophobia.........

There is nothing xenophobic about killing shop owners to loot from their shops. The barbaric criminals/murderers have just find out that foreign business people (especially black non South Africans) are soft targets.

The reason these stupid people are murdering our fellow brothers and sisters is because when they did the same in 2008 not even one of them was found guilty and sentenced to serve time in jail. The other problem is that 21 years into freedom the majority of Mzansi people still DON'T KNOW that without the help of other African countries and the rest of the world - this country would still be under Apartheid rule.

AND yes, if ire country was still ruled by the Apartheid regime, South African criminals would still be having NO RIGHTS to kill other people.

Shame on us blacks.

SOUTH AFRICA

NK TOURS will take you there............

Church Square in central Pretoria was the site of the city’s first church, built in 1855. During its early years, the square was used as a marketplace and sports field.

Today Church Square is a relaxing spot for visitors who adore 19th-century and early 20th-century architecture, as well as those who just want to enjoy a day out with the family. It is a great place for families to sit under beautiful Jacaranda trees and feed the pigeons on a hot summer afternoon on the well-manicured lawn.

The square is surrounded by numerous historical buildings, including the Palace of Justice where former president Nelson Mandela and several of his African National Congress comrades were charged and tried for treason during the infamous Rivonia Trial. On the southern side of the square lies the Ou Raadsaal (Old Government) building and the Old Capitol Theatre which is linked to Café Riche – the oldest café and bistro in Pretoria.

Church Square is also framed by the Netherlands Banking Building (home to the offices to Tshwane Tourism) and the General Post Office, which was erected in 1910.

OUCH! ELEPHANT GETS A NASTY SURPRISE WHEN A CROCODILE SNAPS ITS JAWS AROUND ITS TRUNK AS IT TAKES A DRINK IN SOUTH AFRICA

A giant crocodile appeared to have bitten off more than it could chew when it clamped its jaws around the trunk of an elephant.

These incredible photographs captured the moment the four meter reptile was lifted almost clear out of the water as the panicked bull elephant attempted to free himself from its jaws.

The large mammal had been enjoying an afternoon bath with the rest of the herd at a watering hole in the Sabi Sands game reserve in South Africa.

But as it tried to leave the water, an enormous crocodile latched onto the animal's trunk with its sharp jaws.

Tourists saw the terrified elephant rear up on its hind legs and trumpet loudly in fear and pain as it tried to free its trunk.
The hungry crocodile was even dragged out of the water and into the air as the two animals tussled but it stubbornly refused to let go.
Eventually the bull struck the reptile with his knee and stabbed with his tusks to escape its jaws before making a very quick get away.

Ashley Lewis, a 31-year-old fitness marketer, from Michigan US, caught the fierce fight on camera during a trip to the game reserve in December.

Ashley said: 'We had been sitting in our truck on the river bank. Suddenly, about 300 yards upstream we heard loud and frantic trumpeting from an older bull elephant.

'It was initially hard to make out why, but when he arched his trunk and reared up on his hind legs, it quickly became clear that a crocodile had latched on to his trunk.

'The elephant reared up and down, taking the croc with him as if he was waving around a toy.'Eventually, when the croc wouldn't loosen his grip, the elephant slammed him on the ground and put his knee, and the full weight of his body, on to the croc and then jabbed it with his tusks.

'This finally got the croc to relent and the elephant ran up the hill of the bank faster than I thought possible for an animal that big.
'I was in awe. It was hard to say anything other than this is insane.
'I've never seen anything like it, and it appeared that neither had our guide, tracker or any of the staff and Lion Sands - it was pretty unique.

'I remember our guide yelling, 'cameras! cameras!' as if this was a once in a lifetime opportunity, he was not wrong.'
Although the elephant sustained injuries to his trunk, rangers expect him to make a full recovery. The crocodile may have suffered more serious wounds.
