Hyenas Feeding on Impala Foetus
*NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS* There are so many happy sightings on our #bonangwenyasafaris in #krugernationalpark. But the reality of the wild, is survival of the fittest, and this also sometimes means moments that are sad. This clip was recorded at a sighting that was the perfect example of this. Hyenas were feasting on a freshly killed female impala that happened to be pregnant. A fight errupted for food between two hyenas and in the process, one ripped the impala foetus out and dragged it aside to eat it.
For the hyena, it was survival and a much-needed meal, but from a human perspective, it was so sad. You can book your exciting #krugersafaris with us at www.bonangwenyalodge.co.za - our safaris are family-friendly. #marlothpark
The reality of nature is that it's not always happy sightings. In this clip from a recent #bonangwenyasafari in #krugerpark, a lion feasts on the leftovers of a giraffe carcass. This sighting was a fascinating insight into the cycle of life in the wild. #bonangwenyasafaris #marlothpark #krugersafaris
*Sound on :-) Earlier in the week, we promised you another story about hyenas and Wild Dogs being in the same place... The drama began with some Wild Dogs killing an Impala, and everyone was happy. Until 2 hyeanas strolled into the neighborhood and decided on some take-aways - literally! At this stage only the hyenas were happy.
But the wild dogs weren't going to stand for the brazen theft of their meal by these 2 bullies, so they brought in reinforcements. As you can see in the clip, a wild confrontation followed and in the end, justice prevailed - the wild dogs retrieved their meal and the hyenas had to go and make another plan to get some 'fast food' 😆. Amazing what you see on a #bonangwenyasafari in #krugerpark! You can book today at www.bonangwenyalodge.co.za #marlothpark
Wild Dogs VS Hyenas at Kill in Kruger Park

This may come as a surprise, but hyenas and wild dogs are often found close toegther. This is not because they are friends. On the contrary, they are fierce competitors for food, and survival is a serious business. But on a hot day, there is nothing wrong with a temporary truce as they all cool off in a river bed.
This sighting was recorded on a recent #bonangwenyasafari in #krugernationalpark, and since wild dog sightings are so rare and special, we thought you might enjoy it too. Watch this space for another wild dog vs hyena interaction later this week - it was the complete calm to this calm! Honey Badgers are legendary for their fierceness and in this amazing sighting, you can see the truth of that! During this #bonangwenyasafari in #krugerpark, our guests had the rare oportunity to see this Honey Badger eating an antelope. He was clearly underterred by the size of his meal, but that's hardly suprising hwen you take into account that they have even been known to kill lions! Leopards are notoriously shy and mysterious, so when we came accross this leopard mom and her cub in #krugerpark on a recent #bonangwenyasafari, it was a superb sighting! Calm and playful, and the dead tree made a perfect see-saw!-) We hope you'll enjoy this wild experience as much as we did! Survival in the wild is dependent on many things, including stealth and camouflage when hunting. On Saturday's #bonangwenyasafari in #krugerpark, we had the privilege of spending time with this amazing leopard who had some hungry eyes on an Impala.
The clip is not great quality, but is such a wonderful example of how leopards are masters of disguise, and well, feigned nonchalance!😂 From the clip, you'd never guess the context it was taken in - this leopard's 'who me?' attitude is totally convincing!
So, if you're wondering who won, the Impala is still around to tell the tale, courtesy of the outside influence of traffic noise at the sighting. It was a very special opportunity to observe 2 beautiful wild animals in their natural habitat! It's not often that you see Crocodiles crossing the road, and today's video, courtesy of Barend Viljoen, is a great reminder that these amazing reptiles (who inspired the name of our lodge) are a force to be reckoned with in and out of the water! Nile Crocodiles can walk at speeds of up to 17 km p/h! In this video, you can see what is often called the 'high walk', and it is an impressive show of the muscular capacity of these power houses. Keep an eye out for them on your next stay at #bonangwenyalodge, or on your next #bonangwenyasafari in #krugerpark. www.bonangwenyalodge.co.za #marlothpark
