Hyenas had managed to steal his kill and he was left looking rather uncomfortable above them in this Sausage tree while they had a tug of war on the ground over his meal. The sound of excited Hyenas filled the air as he watched on unable to move or retrieve his meal.

This morning at our favourite Hyena den the cubs were being absolutely unruly.
Mom was attempting to pick them up and carry them back to the den but their was massive resistance.
She has definitely got two strong willed cubs on her hands!

As he sauntered across the road, the sun touching his mane as stood majestic and proud before disappearing into the bush.
Certainly a moment where times seems to stand still.

The sun had not yet risen over The Shingwedzi riverbed when we made our way down the S50 in search of our favourite pride of lions.
We were kilometres down the road when we got our first tracks, one male and at least 2 females had been on the road recently.
As we continued down the road we took a loop to check the riverbed. There they were, 2 lionesses making haste towards the road, quickly we exited the loop and we were met by a male lion who was sprinting as fast as possible away from 2 of the biggest lionesses We have ever laid eyes on. A nomad had infiltrated the territory of the pride while the dominant males were away and a brawl ensued, he certainly did not bank on getting a beating from the Queens of The North. They drove him out, their intention was crystal clear. They would fight to the death to protect the Pride.
We returned to the scene of the crime and what we witnessed was nothing short a wildlife documentary. A lone lioness marked the scene of the battle. She made her way up onto a mound and began to cry out at the top of her lungs. Seconds later 12 of The Shingwedzi Pride members began to congregate from all corners of the riverbed their fresh wounds clear as they surrounded us and joined the victory cry.
For 30 minutes the cries of the Shingwedzi Pride rang out into the bush for all to hear.
The message was clear - You are not welcome here.

Nala is quickly becoming a boss in her own right. We found early on safari this week looking and sounding very confident. Scent marking and vocalising as she moved up and down Matjulu, eventually moving down river scent marking as she went.
Certainly a sighting we will not forget for a very long time!

And love.”I love watching the Wild Dogs in the morning. Lets face it, on the surface it looks like absolute chaos, you aren’t even sure where to point the camera. It’s a sighting that is as exhilarating as it comes. Everywhere you look, dogs are excitedly interacting. We recently watched Chasing The Sun 2 and a few days later we ran into this pack of dogs getting ready for the hunt. As I watched them I thought of Rassie Erasmus and his one of a kind inspirational motivational speeches to the players and I found myself thinking of the similarities in how pumped up the Springboks get before a game and how pumped up these dogs get before the hunt. We so often talk about how the bush can change in a matter of minutes. 2 days ago we were blessed to witness this first hand, while winding our way down the S126 we were stopping and chatting to multiple vehicles who had no news of any sightings down the road, we pressed on and as we rounded a corner there she was, lying in the open, relaxing in the shade.
What an absolute privilege it was to sit and watch her going about her day.
These moments remind us why we love this special place so much, you just never know what is waiting for you around the next corner.

On safari with @adesh_singh_wildlife_photos and his amazing family for the last two days on private safari. We were very blessed to not only have incredible company but also some magical sightings, some of which we will be sharing over the coming days.This was definitely a highlight! Finding The South Shishangeni Male yesterday morning in all his glory in the road on entering at Malalane Gate. He had clearly engorged himself the night before and his stomach was swaying as he was moving down the road. Mom jumped back into serious mode, and was checking the surrounding area before she left the cub. The cub was still intent on playing with what I am sure is one its favourite toys, mom’s tail! Mom was so touchingly patient with her little ball of energy. It was truly a privilege to get a glimpse into their world.

Part 2: Leopard and Cub S21
We felt so blessed to be able to witness this beautiful interaction between mom and her cub on the S21 in the Kruger National Park. Once this very alert leopardess had assessed the area and was satisfied that the coast was clear she allowed herself to relax somewhat. She indulged her playful side and the two of them played on the rocks for roughly 30 minutes. This vital playtime allows the cub to practice and master important life skills.

The final chapter - Nsuku leapt into action, picking up one of the cubs and subsequently she launched herself into the nearest tree. Our nerves were shot when we saw the cub following her back down. She then dutifully picked up the cub and made her way down to the road crossing towards the river. We waited with bated breath as she came back without the first cub towards the den where shed left the second cub. She then put the second cub into a hole in the rocks and sprinted back to the first cub, it was at this time that 5 Hyenas came to investigate and walked straight through the den site where the second cub still remained (we sat almost not moving a muscle).
The Hyenas proceeded straight past the den and down towards the river where Nsuku was with the first cub. After some time she came back to the second cub and moved it in the opposite direction, inland. Once she had stored the cub she came back over the road, all we could do was wait. Elation took hold of us as we got a brief glimpse of Nsuku with a cub in her mouth crossing back towards the area where she had moved the second cub. She had saved them both.
Sadly not long after this event, it was confirmed by one of the Lukimbi Rangers that a Male lion had killed one of the cubs (we presume she managed to move 1 cub prior to the lion reaching the den). Hopefully the remaining cub is still going strong.
