Set in 8 acres of indigenous coastal gardens, forest and grassland is a beautiful old colonial beach home with wide wrap around verandahs, and truly magnificent views of the Indian Ocean. Bazley Beach, is a secluded and tranquil holiday resort just under an hours drive from Durban. The main house, which has 3 en suite double bedrooms, (sleeping 6) and a further en suite bedroom off the rock garden

(for 4 people) for a total of 10 guests. The 2 front bedrooms have direct access onto the front verandah, with stunning 180 degree sea views. In the garden, is a separate cottage with 2 double bedrooms, a bathroom, and open plan living area, sleeping 4 guests. This is rented separately.

Shangrila in autumn. A warm sea - 24 degrees. Happy children, building sandcastles, happy dogs ‘fishing’ on a deserted beach. Clean water that’s safe to swim in.

The gardens are looking absolutely beautiful at the moment. So is the beach. Whales, dolphins and sardines. The sea is warm and so is the hospitality!
There are a few weekends available in July and August.

Autumn. The best time to visit Shangrila. The sea is warm. Whales, and dolphins with the possibility of sardines.
The garden is beautiful in its brilliant glory. Aloes by the thousand, as well as red hot pokers, and the majestic corral trees in flower. A true indigenous wonderland with all the wildlife that goes with the plants - birds, butterflies, bees, bushbuck and the tiny blue duiker, to mention just a few.
The Beach House is tastefully decorated and has a wraparound veranda. Sleeps 10 in 4 en suite bedrooms.
The Cottage sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms sharing a bathroom.

Shangrila is an incredibly special place. I live here. I know just how wonderful it is to live in paradise.

Hundreds of people visited the garden, with the UKZN Alumni, the SA Botanical Society, and local garden enthusiasts.
Tours of the garden were lead by Elsa Pooley, who designed the garden, as well as by myself, Elizabeth Forsdick.
