According to the ABC news article:
"In this case, the Home Affairs website, which includes pages where people can lodge visa applications online, was not available for the public to access.

In a statement, the department said the attack meant people were "briefly prevented" from access the website and online portals overnight.

"No departmental holdings, including personal or sensitive information, were accessed by the threat actor," the statement said."

In my experience, the online IMMI account portal is frequently unable to be accessed due to "high volume" issues...so as a I wouldn't have suspected a cyber-incident but good that the department confirmed that no personal information was stolen in this incident.

Home Affairs and Immigration webpages have been targeted by a denial-of-service attack that has prevented people from lodging visa or citizenship applications.

Australian Citizenship approval!

Did you know that a direct pathway to Australian citizenship will be available from 1 July 2023 for New Zealand citizens living in Australia?
From 1 July 2023, New Zealand citizens who have been living in Australia for four years or more (holding subclass 444 visa) will be eligible to apply directly for Australian citizenship. They will no longer need to first apply for and be granted a permanent visa.
