As royals came to a closure for 2021 three of our Royals riders Took the opportunity away from the stables to go to a camp drafting event with Ken Read on the weekend. Made a little harder in occasional 50 to 90 km gusts wind these ladies show that they could really ride and handle a horse in any condition.
Kylie Hammond who has been our coach at Royal’s for the last three years rode Beau, Who by the end of the weekend was chasing the cows as good as any horse. Kylie showed her natural ability to guide a difficult horse and teach him how to chase.
Ella Piva who has been riding with Royals for 5 years was riding Little Hawk, who knew exactly what to do, Ella had a crowning achievement in getting a cow though camp drafting course. Some people spend years trying to do this.
Lily McGaw who’s been riding at Royals for only 2.5 years who was riding Ember, A horse who is rising four years old and who Lily has also broken in/given her a great start to life was out teaching her horse for the very first time to chase cows. Their confidence grew and they look like a seasoned camp draft by the end of the weekend.
It’s very emotional for me to see riders from Royals out there representing in the horse world trying new things learning new things and being overall brilliant people to be around. A very proud moment.
Royals is searching for a new home in Brisbane at present. We are still offering lessons out at the farm which may can still be booked through our website. As well as general riding lessons we will have horsemanship lessons and continue to teach people out here until we find our new home within Brisbane.
People have asked me the reasons that we do what we do at Royals and it’s for weekends like this, years of training that have an end result that is beyond comparisons of most things we will ever do in life.
Keep riding and we hope to see you at the farm soon.
