Summertime at the Bunya Mountains – just perfect

Summer heat and humidity can be draining, sticky and energy-sapping – but not at the Bunya Mountains! This cool, green mountain paradise is the perfect place to escape the summertime heat and humidity that dominates most of Queensland, with temperatures usually around 5 – 7 degrees cooler than the surrounding lowlands. It’s the perfect weather for outdoor activities, whether that’s walking on the 40km of walking tracks through the bunya-pine dominated rainforest of the National Park wilderness lands, playing sports or games, interacting with the local wildlife, going spotlighting for nocturnal animals, taking a horse and cart ride or just relaxing in the great outdoors. The days are usually pleasant and comfortable, and the nights cool down beautifully – and the summer sunrises and sunsets are just amazing.

Don’t miss the chance for a summertime escape at the beautiful Bunya Mountains – it’s easy to see why it’s the season of choice for many visitors. Book your cool retreat here: https://bunyamountains.com.au/accommodation-search/

We still have a few days available in February/March. And it’s almost Bunya nut season as well! Should be a bumper year. Don’t miss out!

Low season is here!

February marks low season at the Bunya Mountains – meaning it’s the perfect time to nab a Bunya Mountains holiday for less!

February is a great time to visit the Bunya Mountains. It’s not as busy or crowded, you have a greater choice of properties, the weather is still pleasant and cooler than surrounding areas, and you can take advantage of the seasonal rates that apply to all our accommodation. And it’s quick and simple to book an impulse break, giving you the chance to relax and unwind after the hustle and bustle of the end of the year. But you’ll have to be quick to take advantage of a cheaper holiday, as mid-season rates start on 1st March! Book your off-season holiday here: https://bunyamountains.com.au/accommodation-search/

The chance to get away from it all? Check.

Time to relax, recharge and unwind? Check.

Time to spend with your family? Check.

The chance to escape the heat of summer? Check.

An abundance of wildlife to marvel at and enjoy? Check.

And the chance to do it all in one of Queensland’s most magical locations? Check.

What could be better than a Bunya Mountains Christmas, where you’ll be able to rest and refresh while enjoying a wonderful family holiday? It makes Christmas an even more special time for the whole family.

Christmas is a very popular time though, and there’s only limited availability amongst our properties over Christmas (although there’s still some availability for the December and January holidays outside the actual Christmas period). You’ll need to be quick to secure a property this year … but if you miss out, there’s always next year. You can book your Bunya Mountains holiday over a year in advance, so if you want to be sure of next year’s Bunya Mountains Christmas, book now while you have the chance.

These boots are made for walkin' 🎵, and we know that’s just what they’ll do, but here’s what you should do when you visit Bunya Mountains National Park …

On your way in and out of the park, make sure you use our boot-washing stations to give your boots a good scrub. 🥾

Our first line of defence is to help protect our bunya pines from a potentially devastating soil-based disease. have been working with expert plant pathologists to investigate why many bunya pines in the national park had become unhealthy or had died. After extensive testing of soils and root samples, they found microscopic fungal-like organisms called Phytophthora (a type of water mould). They live in the soil and spread from other national parks as well as internally in the by soil carried on shoes, machines and other equipment or plants.

They affect plants by attacking the root system and decreasing their ability to accept water and nutrients.

So, let's play our part to protect the Bunya Mountains National Park, home to the world’s largest stand of bunya pines … and significant cultural importance to First Nations peoples. Help us protect them from harm and prevent the disease from spreading to other areas within the national park.
