Last week we really enjoyed 'GOOP'. Some enjoyed it more than others. We have had 'Minions, Smurfs and Zombies' after we had washed off as much as we could. 😀🤣 The children really enjoyed the sensory element of the texture of the goop and enjoyed exploring and discovering what they could do with it. We have had a very busy week celebrating the Olympic Games. We started with our Flag Ceremony, each child carried a Flag around the path before placing them in trays in front of our Cauldron. We then had our Torch Relay with children holding the flames to 'light' the Olympic Torch. The Torch Bearer held the flame at the Cauldron as we watched the flame grow. This began our Preschool Olympic Games. We then had events that the children participated in which included Duck Swimming Races, Jumping Races, Target Shooting, Mini Golf, Gymnastics, Javelin and Thong Throwing. We have been learning about the Paris Olympics 2024 and have been invited to be a part of the action in Paris by creating artwork to contribute to the walls of the Olympic Village. Some of our children enjoyed creating artworks that we have mailed to the Sydney Olympic Committee in preparation of the Paris Olympic Games. The Village Art Project pictures will be used to add vibrancy to the village and instil a sense of pride as the Australian Athletes prepare to represent Australia. The children were excited to learn that we will be holding our own Olympic Games at Preschool. To celebrate First Responders Day on Wednesday, we made cards for some of our local Fire and Police workers. This was in recognition of how they help to keep us safe in the Community. John and Nelson from Cessnock Fire and Rescue called in on Wednesday. Lewis and Henry presented them with their special cards and chocolates. As they left they did a drive by with their lights and sirens on. Huxley called out to them "Hope you enjoy your chocolates!" This week for 'Child Protection Week' we have been participating in talking and listening as we were having discussions with the children about the adults who help to keep us safe while we are at home, at preschool and in the community. We traced our hands and recognised 5 adults who help to keep us safe and we wrote them on each finger. The children also enjoyed decorating their hand and carrying it around proudly to show their Educators and peers. Each day we came together at the boat to have a photo with our hands that we made. The children recognised family members and educators for their hands.
On Wednesday Kirane and Mae visited Pre-school with the presentation 'Living Safely with Dogs'. Throughout the show we were able to dance, ask questions and learn how to approach a dog and the correct technique for patting a dog. We sang the song 'Let Them Be' when the dog is sleeping, eating or sick, crossing our arms to make a cross. At the end of the show, the children were excited to be able to practice the correct technique as we patted Mae, the 6 year old Border Collie. NQS 1.1, 2.2, 6.2.3

This week Joel from JD's World of Magic entertained us with his magic. We were in awe and asked lots of questions "How did he do that?" Joel also needed some assistants during the shows and we all had to wiggle our fingers to make the magic happen. We were able to pat his Rabbit Carpenter at the end of the show.
Today, Elsie's mum bought in their new puppy Obi for us to pat. He was so soft. He is an 6 week old Labrador x Kelpie. The children sat in a circle and asked questions about what he eats and drinks.

The children had a turn pouring, adding in the ingredients and mixing it altogether. They were tasty, we enjoyed eating these at afternoon tea time as well as a rainbow ice-cream. This Week we have had some visitors from our local Community come and share with the children their roles and responsibilities in the community. On Monday we had Sergeant Rob and Constable Emma from Cessnock Police Station visit for morning group time showing us their equipment and resources that they use on a daily basis. We also had a discussion about how the Police help to keep us safe. We were able to dress in Police Hats and Shirts while getting a photo with the Police Officers. We then used ink to record our fingerprints on the special pad. Then we went outside and sat in the Police Car with the lights on. We had a look at the big screen and radio while having our photo taken. As they left with their sirens on we waved goodbye at the fence.
On Tuesday, Sian from Cessnock Library came for Storytime. She read 'Dinosaur Dance' 'Noni the Pony' and 'Press Here'. We sang and danced to 'Open Shut Them', 'Rain is Falling Down', 'Popcorn song', 'Incey Wincey' and 'Dance Dinosaur'.

Last year we had a Bug Show and he gave us some Leaf Insect eggs. Over the Christmas Holidays one egg hatched and we have been caring for our Leaf Insect, watching it grow. We decided to name her 'Prancer' as she was born at Christmas time. The children have been excited to hold 'Prancer' and were shocked to see how much she had grown after the last holiday period. The children have the opportunity to spray water at the leaves for her to drink. We also have a 'Stick Insect' that we named 'Sticky'. The children have also had the opportunity to hold and care for 'Sticky' as well. The children are interested in searching for bugs outdoors in the bug catchers. Tucka also made a 'Treehouse' using a box in the garden. NQS 1.1, 2, 3.2.3, 6.2.2

Jody (Educator) showed the children an Army shirt, helmet and Medals from her great great Uncle Andrew who served in WWI. She also showed us a locket with a picture of her Uncle in it. The children were able to look at and touch the items.
Inga (Educator) shared her Husband's Air Force camo shirt, Medals and camo Care Teddies. In his Medals, he had a special Conspicuous Cross Medal that he received from the Queen for Outstanding Service in Defence.
Ellen (Jordyn's Mum) brought in her Army uniform, slouch hat and other clothing that she swapped with other serving members from other countries. The children were able to try on the uniforms and hats.
Maddy ( Augie's Mum) shared mini Medals that were made for Augie to represent Medals from Maddy's great great Uncle who served in WWI and her Grandad who served in WWII.
It was amazing for the children to see and touch real items that were used during their Service.
We also read the story 'ANZAC Biscuits' and as a follow on we made ANZAC Biscuits with the children each day. The children were excited to taste the ANZAC biscuits.
The children also enjoyed having the opportunity to play a real Bugle. There was a lot of surprise and laughter as they were able to make a sound with the Bugle.
