NEW - Western Australian DAMA Agreement

We are delighted to advise that the WA State Government has negotiated a Statewide Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) with the Federal Government.

The WA DAMA can offer significant benefits to WA hospitals and medical/allied health practices by providing pathways to permanent residence for experienced overseas healthcare professionals up to the age of 55 years. Medical professionals can already access age exemptions, so it’s probably more useful for nursing and allied health.

The DAMA program uses the following visa types:

Temporary Skills Shortage (subclass 482) visa

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) (subclass 494) visa

Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) (subclass 186) visa

The WA DAMA Occupations List includes a wide range of medical, nursing and allied health occupations. It’s an extensive list.

This groundbreaking initiative by the WA government will enable regional hospitals and medical/allied health practices to recruit and sponsor experienced healthcare professionals who would typically be ineligible for permanent residence due to their age. For many migrants, it will open doors to permanent residence that were previously closed.

The application process involves two key initial steps. First, a business must obtain endorsement from a body called an authorised Designated Area Representative (DAR). Once endorsed, the business can enter into an individual labour agreement with Home Affairs and once the labour agreement is approved, sponsorship can follow.

This initiative aims to assist a wide range of regional businesses (and not just in healthcare!!) to address their current skill shortages. Given the benefits, we expect significant interest in this program.

If you require further information about the DAMA or the application process and the wonderful opportunities this new visa program presents, please visit https://migration.wa.gov.au/our-services-support/designated-area-migration-agreement or contact us.

Want to know more about the Construction Visa Subsidy Program in Western Australia?

The new Construction Visa Subsidy Program (CVSP) is supporting Western Australian construction businesses to fill the demand for a skilled workforce.

The program will provide grant payments of up to $10,000 to support skilled migration visa pathways for workers and help offset expenses such as migration agent fees, visa application fees and relocation costs.

The State Government is investing in initiatives to ensure locals are training for jobs for the future, but there is a need to retain skilled migrants in WA and for interstate and overseas workers who have the skills needed by WA businesses today. The new Construction Visa Subsidy Program (CVSP) is....

Australia is well and truly open. Tourists are starting to trickle in, and we’re seeing a reasonable number of backpackers arriving on our wet and windy shores … but where are the hoards of backpackers Australia was hoping for?? It’s nuts! Aussie cafes and restaurants are crying out for cooks, chefs, managers and wait staff. We’re going through a serious housing boom but have an acute shortage of tradies. Where is everyone?? Lots of employers will consider helping backpackers who need support with flights and accommodation. If you work in hospitality or construction and are considering a few years in Australia on a working holiday visa, come now! Wages are at an all time high and there are thousands of jobs available!

International students can now enter WA !

The WA Government will now allow international students enrolled to study in WA to apply to enter the State. Already enrolled international students will need to:

1. Enter WA indirectly by transiting through another Australian city, OR
2. Fly directly into Perth within the current incoming passenger cap of 530 people per week.

This change applies to students who are enrolled in a WA primary school, secondary school, or a university or college of technical or further education, including students who are just starting their course.

International students who are currently overseas should visit the WA State Government website and read about the vaccination, quarantine, G2G requirements etc before booking a flight to Australia.

3,000 HUMANITARIAN PLACES FOR AFGHANISTAN

The Australian Government today announced that an initial 3,000 humanitarian places will be allocated to Afghan nationals within Australia’s 13,750 annual program.

Australia will give first priority to Afghan nationals within the offshore humanitarian program and afford them visa processing priority in the year ahead.

The 3,000 humanitarian places will focus on family members of Australians, persecuted minorities such as women and girls, children, the Hazara and other vulnerable groups.

Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, Alex Hawke MP, said the 3,000 humanitarian places will ensure Australia continues to meet its ongoing commitment to the Afghan people.

“These 3,000 humanitarian places come on top of the 8,500 Afghans Australia has already successfully resettled since 2013 via our existing humanitarian program,” Minister Hawke said.

"The Government anticipates this initial allocation will increase further over the course of this year,” he said.

The Minister's full media release can be viewed here: https://minister.homeaffairs.gov.au/AlexHawke/Pages/3000-humanitarian-places-for-afghanistan.aspx

DO YOU NEED TO TRAVEL OVERSEAS?

Rumours abound that Australian citizens and permanent residents can no longer leave Australia due to COVID-19 restrictions. This is simply not true! In some circumstances, Australian citizens and permanent residents are being permitted to travel overseas. However, they first need to apply for and be granted an exemption. People applying for an exemption to travel overseas must be able to meet at least one of the following requirements:

1. The travel is as part of the response to the COVID-19 outbreak, including the provision of aid
2. The travel is for a business/employer
3. They are travelling to receive urgent medical treatment that is not available in Australia
4. They are travelling outside Australia for a compelling reason for three months or longer
5. They are travelling on compelling or compassionate grounds
6. The travel is in the national interest
7. They are ordinarily resident in a country other than Australia.

Exemptions to travel overseas are not granted lightly and, even if you can meet one or more of the above requirements, it is not guaranteed that you will be granted an exemption! It's important to read the LEAVING AUSTRALIA pages on the Department of Home Affairs website before applying for an exemption and, as with everything in life, it's critical to give the application your very best shot! https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/leaving-australia -1

Partner Visas being processed at record speeds!
Once upon a time you could pop into the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (as it then was then called) with a partner visa application (old fashioned paper application) and walk out with a visa grant! As time moved on and IMMI Account was introduced and more and more people started lodging partner visa applications ... the partner visa processing times blew out horribly. Although COVID-19 is a very nasty virus, the pandemic is certainly having a positive impact on the partner visa processing times and I guess we should be grateful for that! Processing times for the 309 visa applications are incredibly fast at present (often just a few weeks!). Once the Australian borders reopen, there is a good chance that skilled visas will become the top priority and that partner visa processing will slow down again! If you are eligible to submit a partner visa application now, you might want to consider doing it sooner rather than later. Border closures won't last forever .. we hope! 🤞😉
