ProbeLogic Pty Ltd

ProbeLogic Pty Ltd ProbeLogic Pty Ltd Approximately 25% of transducers in clinical use, have some type of undetected fault or performance inhibiting structural defect.
(4)

Probelogic was founded in 2002 to meet the growing demand for better cost efficiencies in the diagnostic imaging sectors, of the Australasian healthcare environment. Approximately 2 out of 3 transducers previously thought to be 'faulty', can be successfully repaired and returned to service. Previously, the only option for the operators of diagnostic ultrasound equipment was to purchase a NEW trans

ducer from the equipment manufacturer. The average cost of Probelogic transducer repairs are only a fraction of the cost of a NEW transducer. With over 80 years total experience in the field of medical diagnostic ultrasound and biomedical engineering, Probelogic's professional team will ensure the delivery of cost effective solutions to diagnostic ultrasound service providers.

Have you ever dropped your probes?

An often unknown risk in ultrasound transducer use is the trauma from a drop or fall warping the plastic of the protective casing. This in turn can lead to the case seams separating and the possibility of fluid (such as ultrasound gel or other contaminants) penetrating inside the probe.

As with the case of this L12-5, we can notice a small amount of liquid beading around the seams of the probe when the case is pressed firmly together, however the extent of the fluid ingress is not evident until the transducer has been disassembled for further examination.

Read more about the hidden dangers associated with this kind of damage and how you could be putting yourself and your patients at risk.

Is your clinic slowing down over the holiday season?

This is the perfect opportunity to get your transducers acoustically tested.

Acoustic testing is necessary to guarantee your transducer is functioning correctly. Common failures we see such as broken wires, defective crystals and damage to the acoustic lens will cause image degradation which can impact the quality of care to your patients.

Water leaking out of a C5-1 convex ultrasound transducer!

It's never a good sign when you see water leaking out of a customers probe before you even have a chance to open it up! Have a look at the shocking corrosion on the copper shielding. Fluid ingress can wreak havoc on the electronic components inside your probe; leading to problems with your imaging quality and obscuring important details in your scans.

Fluid inside your transducer can also be an electrical hazard to both you and your patients. Not to mention, if water found it's way inside your probe head, there's no saying what other contaminants may build up.

This damage was likely caused due to submersion in water, likely during a cleaning process. It is important to read the manufacturer's guidelines on cleaning and handling your equipment to mitigate against these kinds of risks.

Protect your patients against the risks of cross-contamination and electrical hazards by scheduling your probes in for a consult today!

Do you think your clinic would benefit from one of these posters?

Here at ProbeLogic we see so many transducers come in for repair after improper care and handling. We often find that our clients have been accidentally exposing their equipment to behaviours that damage or degrade their probes.

To avoid unnecessary damage, we have drawn up this step by step cleaning process with some helpful tips and tricks.

Have you ever seen a transducer with a lens in such bad condition? Hopefully not!

You might be shocked to find that the probe was still able to function. But why is that? Well, because the perforations are limited to the edges, it is possible that the majority of the image produced would appear relatively fine.

So what caused this? The most likely answer is that this damage was caused by a needle. Ultrasound assisted procedures such as biopsies utilise soundwaves to position the needle and guide injections, but if not properly affixed to the transducer, the needle can slip and puncture the lens.

But if it's not affecting your ability to produce a readable image, what's the problem?

If ranked by the Spaulding Classification of infection risk, this probe would classify as critical. Harmful bacteria can build up inside the crevices caused by a needle perforation, and transfer from patient to patient during scans. This leads to a serious health and safety risk, especially during sterile procedures such as those involving needles.

But let's say by the stroke of a miracle you do manage to sterilise the probe, and it isn't having an effect on your imaging capabilities, what's the harm in using it while in this condition?
It is also important to note that if bacteria can enter, so too can fluid. You can see in this photo that ultrasound gel has already built up and started to collect in the absent parts of the probe lens. Fluid ingress can have a seriously detrimental effect on the electric components inside your transducer, and damage caused by corrosion is often irreparable. Once corroded, the circuitry in your probe can short, preventing signal transmission from probe head to machine. Over time, fluid and contaminant ingress will only worsen, taking an initially simple, relatively inexpensive repair to a costly replacement.

And don't forget the electrocution risk of exposed circuitry. If you think this probe is going to pass an electrical leakage test you've got another thing coming!

Routine maintenance and repair could have prevented this damage and saved the clinic thousands in the cost of replacement.
Book your probes in today before they get this bad!

At one time of day, regular maintenance on your ultrasound machine was crucial.

They were prone to failure.

Costing users thousands of dollars in lost revenue every time they broke down.

Today the machines are robust and very rarely fail.

It's the probes that require the most attention.

Check out our latest blog on why maintaining your probes is more important than the machine. http://bit.ly/2jIOGLV
