Type Tuesday is back: Featuring Eddie, following on from last week!

As a teenager I had a poster of this guy on my wall (along side a bikini clad woman, but that’s another story). While I knew late Eddie Aikau was a Hawaiian big wave surfer who had a tagline/quote “Eddie Would Go” synonymous with his name, I knew little more about him. Over the weekend I stumbled over a doco of him on Kayo. - I was totally enlightened!

I had assumed “Eddie Would Go” was a tag line taken from his love of surfing in huge conditions with no fear... “Yes, Eddie would surf that wave - Eddie would go..” But this name was actually comes from his Surf Life Saving days, as the first lifeguard of the North Shore in Waimea Bay, pulling people from the water when the surf was days! Eddie saved over 500 people from drowning with out any causalities!

I also learnt of Eddie’s passing as well, The Hawaiian surfer lifeguard was invited to join the Hōkūleʻa, a double hulled 60-foot replica of the original Polynesian voyaging canoe, for a 2,400-mile sailing journey which re-traced (in reverse) the Hawaiians ancestral expedition from Hawaii to Tahiti, using ancient navigational techniques only. On March 17, 1978, the boat capsized 20 miles west of Lanai, and the crew lost all provisions and telecommunications. Aikau decided to paddle his board toward Lanai to get help. But he was never seen again.. The rest of the crew on the boat were later rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. The search continued for Eddie which was the largest air–sea search in Hawaiian history!

“Eddie Would Go” became a semantic symbol of courage, commitment, perseverance, and aloha (love, peace, compassion, and a mutual understanding of respect).

A bit of art for your Friday.. Which one would you want on your wall?

I recently started out a packaging job trying to create some highly colourful, textured and abstract concepts, however as the job went on these designs were not going to float with the particular printer we were using. With I decided to create some digital artwork which super pasted the packaging concepts. Was such an enjoyable process! More to come soon..

Today 11 years ago I was travelling from Barcelona to Nice, France..
It was Day 11, As the Diary states, it was a long day of travel 10 hours on the train. A day of reflection after departing a love interest from home, after 6 days of some crazy parting and travelling throughout Spain.. Plenty of time rest and relax before arriving Nice before getting on it again..
