Signcutters

Signcutters is a company covering all aspects of signage, with a focus on the traditional and hand-painted. Two best friends who have been designing together since they graffitied a tractor in primary school. With 18 years combined professional experience between the directors, they decided to launch their own bespoke signcraft company. The name Ricketts and Thorne is an homage to a Grandfather’s 1950s furniture company, Ricketts and Thorp, still famous for the high skill sets of their workers and careful material selection. With a passion for the dying trade of signwriting, Ry Ricketts and Taon Thorne studied their trade together and have since practised everything under the signcraft umbrella, while specialising in the traditional aspect of the craft. Their versatility can be seen through projects such as signwriting on the set of TV shows such as the bushranger period ‘Wild Boys’, pinstriping on cars and motorcycles, the installation of specialty films, brushwork signage for commercial interiors, specialty artwork for private commissions and large scale aerosol art murals, among many others. Signcutters is eager to continue extending their skills with the restoration of signage from days past, with the belief that this is the heritage of an old trade, where importance was placed on the handmade to produce something that is individual, not replicable and is a result of the hand that paints it as much as the client who desires it. Signcutters works professionally with designers, retail, commercial and residential clients to create bespoke pieces and excels in filling a brief with a selection of top materials and substrates and unparalleled expertise, creativity and quality.
