It rises majestically above Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

For the indigenous Palawa people, Kunanyi is not just a physical landmark but a spiritual entity, steeped in legends and stories passed down through generations. It is considered a sacred place, where ancestors reside and where cultural practices and ceremonies have taken place for thousands of years.

The mountain's towering presence also played a vital role in the traditional lifestyle of the Palawa people. Its abundant natural resources provided food, medicine, and materials for tools and shelter. It was a place of gathering and connection, where communities would come together for ceremonies, trading, and storytelling.

Today, efforts are being made to recognize and honor the cultural significance of Kunanyi/Mount Wellington. Aboriginal communities, alongside government initiatives and local organizations, are working to preserve and promote the rich heritage associated with the mountain, ensuring that its importance is acknowledged and respected by all who visit this iconic Tasmanian landmark.

Did you know that this former convict settlement once housed some of Britain's most notorious criminals?

Walking through its well-preserved ruins, you can feel the echoes of its turbulent history, from the chilling stories of inmates to the resilience of the human spirit. Amidst its haunting beauty, there's also a sense of tranquility, a reminder of the healing power of time.

Port Arthur's history is like stepping into a living museum of Tasmania's convict past. The sprawling ruins, once a formidable penal colony, now stand as a testament to resilience and redemption. Exploring the stone remains, it's impossible not to feel the weight of the stories etched into every brick. From the infamous 'Separate Prison' with its solitary confinement cells designed for silent contemplation to the chilling tales of daring escapes, each corner reveals a new layer of the human experience.

One particularly intriguing fact is that Port Arthur was not just a place of punishment, but also a pioneering social experiment. Its innovative system of rehabilitation aimed to reform convicts through education and discipline, a concept ahead of its time.

As I wandered through the picturesque landscape, I couldn't help but marvel at the beauty and brutality. The serene shores, framed by rugged cliffs, offered a stark contrast to the harsh realities of convict life. Yet, amidst the ruins, there's a sense of resilience and hope that transcends the centuries.

Let me know about your visit to Port Arthur ?

Combine the beauty of an unforgettable 3 hour wilderness cruises along the spectacular coastline between Port Arthur and Eaglehawk Neck in southern Tasmania and a half day visit to the famous Port Arthur - home to the worst British convicts

The cruise travels beneath the highest vertical sea cliffs in the Southern Hemisphere at Cape Pillar. Explore waterfalls, rock formations, archways and deep-sea caves.

The coastline is part of the Tasman National Park and is home to a variety of wildlife including hundreds of seals, migrating whales and abundant sea birds in their thousands.

At any time of year you're likely to see the feeding frenzy of diving gannets, albatross and sea eagles wheeling on the wind, cliff-nesting cormorants and peregrine falcons, or a pod of playful dolphins surfing the bow wave of the boat.

Pennicott Wilderness Journeys custom built yellow boats are ideal for viewing the spectacular coastline and wildlife of the Tasman Peninsula. Each vessel holds a maximum of 43 guests. Covered open-air tiered seating means an excellent all-round view and connection with the environment. The boats have been created for these journeys and they are gentle on the environment due to their fuel efficiency and low emission operation.

Nestled in the heart of Hobart, this historic site served as a place of confinement, labor, and even refuge for thousands of female convicts transported to Australia during the 19th century.

Stepping onto the grounds, I couldn't help but feel a sense of reverence for the women who once walked these halls. From 1828 to 1856, this factory was a pivotal part of Australia's convict system, providing accommodation for women deemed 'undesirable' by society.

As I wandered through the well-preserved remains of the factory, I was struck by the resilience and fortitude of these women in the face of adversity. Despite the harsh conditions and grueling work assignments, many of them found ways to support each other and even forge bonds of friendship amidst the turmoil.

The architecture itself speaks volumes about the harsh realities of convict life, with cramped quarters and minimal amenities serving as constant reminders of the hardships they endured. Yet, amidst the bleakness, there's a palpable sense of history and resilience that permeates the air.

Today, the Cascades Female Factory stands as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the enduring legacy of those who came before us. It's a place where history comes alive, offering visitors like myself a chance to connect with the past and reflect on the lessons it holds for the future.

Join me on this journey through time as we honor the stories of the women who shaped Australia's convict era. Swipe through to see some of the snapshots from my visit and feel free to share your thoughts and reflections in the comments below.

This light - drenched restaurant and bar offers incredible views over the river. The current menu is French inspired and serves a set 4 course menu called the โ€œGang of Fourโ€

The new mind-bending building also houses three James Turrell artworks, Unseen Seen (the six-metre sphere), the Weight of Darkness and the Event Horizon.

During โ€œthe Faro experienceโ€ diners are taken through artworks at unknown time with these experiences are enhanced after a few wines or too

If you have visited Mona before, you will agree it's hard to describe what you are looking at and what is art .... still undecided what I think about it ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Located just up the river from Hobart, Mona's subterranean architecture showcases the highlights (and lowlights) of David Walshโ€™s $110m private collection of art and antiquities, as well as hosting a busy exhibitions program.

Mona is also home to the Moorilla winery, two restaurants, several bars, accommodation pavilions and more (plus Moo Brew, an off site brewery). It also hosts two annual festivals.

Mona is open four days a week, Fridays to Mondays, 10amโ€“5pm. Bookings are a must ! Even for locals.

Mona is located eleven kilometres north of Hobart, approximately twenty-five minutes by ferry, or twenty minutes by road

Dedicated high-speed catamarans sail between Hobartโ€™s Brooke Street Pier and Mona often, and take around twenty-five minutes one way

Escape the riff-raff and upgrade like me to the "posh pit" in the ferryโ€™s private lounge, bar and deck. Includes free drinks, tiny food and inflated egos ๐Ÿ™ƒ

If driving, parking is free, but thereโ€™s not much of it

If travelling on the ferry, there are 99 steps upon arrival at Mona. Thereโ€™s an accessible entrance via tunnel if you need it.

They donโ€™t have labels on the walls at Mona. The use an app called "the O"

This includes information about the art on display plus a visitor guide and maps, pinpointing useful stuff like the three lifts, parent and carer room, and accessible toilets. The O supports VoiceOver and screen reader functionality. Its recommend downloading the O app before your visit.

Don't forget to check out the famous wall of va**na and the Cloaca professional pooping machine ๐Ÿ’ฉ its feed quiche and sweet pastrie at 11am and 4pm and
Over the next couple of hours the food is processed and passes through various tubes and 'stomachs' and is pooped out the other end at 2pm ๐Ÿฅด

Looking at art used to be boring. It still is, maybe, but at least here at Mona, the Museum of Old and New Art, you can get drunk and/or rage against the machine.

A non-for-profit organisation. Visiting Bonorong is a chance to come closer than ever to something wild and fragile. Youโ€™ll come face to face with animals that became extinct long ago in other parts of Australia โ€” the same animals they're working hard to protect now

Tasmania is home to an incredible variety of animals, including four marsupial species that are now found nowhere else in the world. These are the Tasmanian devil, the eastern quoll, the Tasmanian pademelon and the shy Tasmanian bettong. There are also 12 endemic bird species in the state, some of which are among the most endangered in the world.

Over the last 200 years Australia has recorded the worldโ€™s fastest rate of mammal extinctions, and other species are increasingly at risk of joining this trend.

For the creatures that are now making their last stand in Tasmania, Bonorong is determined to do all it can to prevent them disappearing.

Your entry fees directly fund the running of Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, as well as the operation of all of their conservation programs and includes roo food.

Open 365 days a year!!

Just 30 minutes north of Hobart's CBD, home to many animals, including Tasmanian devils, wombats, echidnas, birds, quolls and free-roaming Forester kangaroos always keen for a good scratch on the chest and some gentle hand feeding.

A visit to Bonorong is not complete without joining one of their daily guided tours. These tours are free with entry and give you the opportunity to meet some of their most popular locals: the wombats, devils and echidnas. You will hear little-known facts and stories of the wildlife in care at Bonorong. Daily Tours are at 10am, 11:30am, 1:30pm and 3:30pm

They have a Food Hut onsite, making it a great stop for lunch with 100% plant-based meals or your can bring your own picnic.

Bonorong is easily accessible by car, with free parking onsite

Protecting all wildlife. Bonorong Wildlife Rescue operates Tasmania-wide 24/7 helping all animals in need

Support the protection of native wildlife and visit Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary on your next visit to Hobart

Rich in history and architecture, with more than 50 historic buildings, mostly from the 1820s. Located in the Coal River Valley just a short 30 minute drive from Hobart. Itโ€™s the perfect place for a day trip or stop for lunch while exploring Southern Tasmania, Freycinet and the East Coast.

Heres a few fun facts about the city of Richmond ๐Ÿ’š

The most well known and photographed landmark in Richmond is the oldest bridge in Australia thatโ€™s still in use. Built by convicts in the 1820s, it is made of sandstone and was completed in 1825 when Richmond was the 3rd largest town in what was then called Van Diemen's Land.

The Richmond Gaol is also the oldest gaol in Australia. Built in 1825, it was in use until 1928 and gives glaring insight into the difficulty of convict life in the 19th century. It's open for self-guided tours daily, and as you explore the cells you can learn about the stories of some of the notorious inmates, including the famous convict โ€œIkey Solomonโ€, who many say was the model for the character of Fagin in Charles Dickensโ€™ novel "Oliver Twist".

Last month, Roxy and I participated in the 57km Dog Walk Challenge to help raise funds and awareness for the 57 people diagnosed with breast cancer every day in Australia ๐Ÿ’ž

Thanks to our fur-tastic family and friends, we raised $292 and walked 79km together ๐Ÿ•

Thousands of people nationwide joined the fund-raiser and collectively as a group, we helped to raise a massive $707,855 for breast cancer research.

Isn't that PAW-some? ๐Ÿพ

A phenomenal result by our four legged friends ๐Ÿ˜

A massive thank you from Roxy and I once again to everyone who donated, supported us and made this possible.

Remember walkies to save lives! ๐Ÿ’—

My fundraising page is still open until March 31, so there's still time to support if you would like too ! ๐Ÿ™

Recently receiving a bow-to-stern modernisation in February 2020, making Norwegian Spirit looking fresh and ready to navigate the high seas!

The recent refurbishment saw every stateroom modernised, every bar and lounge redesigned, all dining overhauled and a new fine Italian restaurant โ€œOndaโ€ by Scarpetta added.

Carrying just over 2000 passengers, the ship rarely feels crowded and gives a warm and relaxed atmosphere, best suited to adults, although children are certainly welcome onboard.

Norwegian Spirit has enough onboard activities to fill every minute of your cruise. Being a smaller and older ship, you wonโ€™t find the latest hottest features like dodgem cars, rock climbing walls and robot bars.

Instead youโ€™ll find all the classics - pools and hot tubs and top sports deck with golf and basketball courts. The vast array of dining options, bars and lounges will also keep you occupied.

The recent refit has given the ship an adult vibe with brand-new features such as the Thermal Suite; the Spice H2O area, which replaces the kids' area Splash Academy and new cabins.

While children are welcome, Norwegian Spirit has been redesigned with adults in mind. There are no dedicated kids programs or services offered on this ship and therefore entertaining the children will be left in your hands.

Norwegian Spirit has seven complimentary restaurants on board, including Windows and Taste, the two main dining rooms plus five specialty restaurants, so you can dine at a different place each night of your cruise should you wish to!

With Norwegian Spiritโ€™s recent makeover, you can now enjoy the 24-hour eatery, The Local Bar and Grill, Garden Cafรฉ, The Great Outdoors, and many more.

Speciality dining options include Onda by Scarpetta which serves up modern Italian, Sushi, Cagneyโ€™s Steakhouse, Le Bistro offering French cuisine, which are all ร  la carte style dining. Silk and Teppanyaki.
