National Animal
The national animal of Bhutan is the Takin (Burdorcas taxicolor) that is associated with religious history and mythology. It is a very rare mammal with a thick neck and short muscular legs. Celebrating People in Hospitality

What struck us about Bhutan Peaceful Residency & Spa in Thimphu on our visit, besides its beauty, was the thoughtfulness behind every aspect of the hotel. And then of course, the dashing team of father and sons who run the place with so much love and passion. HB Bajgai has around three decades of experience in the tourism industry, having begun as a German-speaking tourist guide after serving the RGoB for 18 years, and going on to start his tour company in 2003, Bhutan Peaceful Tours and Treks. So he had many years of constructive feedback from his guests to address when he finally built his dream hotel. Bhutan Peaceful Residency & Spa is a premium 3-star hotel that opened on the same day Bhutan reopened to tourism on 23rd September, 2022. Among many, the hotel has high-end mattresses and double-glazed soundproof windows, centralized heating/cooling system, power generator, excellent service, a modern conference hall, and eco-friendly initiatives like centralized eco-green water heating system and reduced use of single-use plastic. His second son (first left in the picture), Bijay Bajgai is a familiar face in the Bhutanese music industry. Aside from being in a popular local band, O’ Strangers and owning a music store I4BM, he is also a tourist guide and marketing manager for the family business. A musician at heart, Bijay is passionate about infusing music and tourism. “Music connects people,” he said. “Some people travel around the world just to listen to one artist perform. Musical events have the potential to uplift our local music industry as well as enhance tourism in the country.” The youngest son (first right in the picture), Abhishek Bajgai grew up following his father around with his guests, eventually going to Malaysia to study Hospitality Management where he interned at Hilton. Now, he is the GM of the hotel to whom providing the best service to all his guests is the most gratifying thing. He also strongly believes in teamwork and taking care of his employees. The eldest son (second right in the picture), Ashik Bajgai looks after the tour company. While it’s the team of father and sons working on the forefront, they deeply appreciate and thank the strength and will of their mother in everything they do. “She has the eye of a perfectionist,” said HB Bajgai of his wife. “She sees mistakes we don’t, and it’s this meticulous nature of her that has ensured that the hotel is the way it is."

Prayer flags are ubiquitous in Bhutan, found fluttering on mountain passes, ridges, mountain meadows, rooftops, dzong and temple courtyards and in front of houses. The prayer flags can be found in five colours - blue, green, red, yellow and white - symbolising the elements of water, wood, fire, earth and iron. They also stand for the five dhyani or meditation Buddhas; the five wisdoms; the five directions; and the five mental attributes or emotions. They may all look similar, but prayer flags have several important variations. Some prayer flags are hung from strings near holy places, especially passes, but most traditional Bhutanese prayer flags are mounted on vertical poles. The text for the flag is carved into wooden blocks and then printed on the cloth in repeating patterns. Each of the four varieties of prayer flag has a specific function, but they all serve the same basic purpose - to invoke the blessings and protection from the deities for conscious beings, living or dead.

National Flower:

The National Flower of Bhutan is commonly known as the blue poppy and scientifically known as Meconopsis grandis subsp. The Blue poppy grows across the Himalayas, and they survive in extreme conditions, such as freezing temperatures. The national flower, blue poppy, is one of the most exquisite and rare flowers in the country. About 5,603 plant species have been identified in the country, including about 576 wild orchids and over 300 medicinal plants.

The BBS Tower or the Bhutan Broadcasting Service Tower is located near the Bhutan Peaceful residency & Spa hotel. It is at a height of around 9400 feet, offering a magnificent view of the whole Thimphu Valley from above. This is also known as Sangaygang Viewpoint. This point is very famous among tourists as it offers such an exquisite panoramic view of the whole valley which also makes it one of the best places to visit in Thimphu.

There are many spots just made for clicking away on your camera but make sure you don’t take pictures of the Tower. Also, the trek to Wangditse Goemba which starts from here is an all-time favourite for hikers and mountain bikers.
