Q1. When did the BBF celebrate ?
- 2015 from 11th to 13th November for three days by Dzongkhag in collaboration with the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Forestry Research and Training at Tingtibi Primary school ground (ཨྱཽན་དབང་ཕྱུག་མཐའ་འཁོར་དང་ཉམས་སྲུང་ཞིབ་འཚོལ་སྤེལ་ཁང།)
The third BBF will be celebrated with effect from 13th to 15th November 2023 at Tintgibi town.
Q2. Themes and objectives of BBF?
- To Commemorate the Birth Anniversary of the Great Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
- To Pay tribute to His Majesty’s visionary leadership in conservation of the environment.
- Promote community- based ecotourism through events like river journey, birding and local cuisine
- Provide opportunities for local people to participate in the festival and enhance their income
- Celebrating the richness of flora and fauna diversity of Dzongkhag.
Q3. Why is the festival celebrated in Zhemgang Dzongkhag?
- Zhemgang Dzongkhag has the highest forest cover of 93.89 percent
- Blessed by three National Parks (Royal Manas National Park, Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, and Phrumshingla National Park)
- Four Major rivers basin of the country (Chamkhar Chhu, Mangdi Chhu, Drangmi Chhu, and Kuri Chhu) forming the Manas River.
- Largest habitat for Tigers (14 tigers in Zhemgang)
- Major habitat of Golden Langur, 31.5 percent are found in Zhemgang
- 39 species of Mammals including 7 endangered species (Asian Elephant, Bengal Slow Loris, Bengal Tiger, Golden Langur, Himalayan Musk Deer, Red Panda, Wild Dog).
- 356 species of birds (1 endangered and 11 Near Threatened)
- 294 species of butterflies
- 112 species of moths
- 186 species of orchids
- 884 species of flora (new to science is Begonia bhutanensis)
- 27 species of snakes
- 10 species of fish
Known for the second largest home for White Bellied Heron which is declared as a critically endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Q4. Why is the BBF celebrated at Tingtibi out of eight gewogs?
- Tingtibi has six birding trails which are exclusively used for bird watching
- Habitat for White Bellied Heron
- Offer opportunities for sport fishing through community-based capture fishery program
- White water rafting in Mangdichu
Centrally located with a good road network connecting to Trongsa and Gelephu
Q5. What are the varieties programs one can expect? (Pre- festival, Main- festival and post-festival)?
- Pre- festival events (Bird-athon, Arts and Literary competition, Photo Framing)
- Main-festival events (Bird watching, trekking along the ancient trails, Fly Fishing, Local Food Stalls, white water rafting, traditional games and cultural extravaganza)
- Post- festival events (Trip to Duenmang Hot spring, Overnight trip to Buli Lake, Photography trip to Shingkhar and Bjoka. Sightseeing of a twin waterfall, camping and bird watching at Panbang, Visit to Trong Heritage village, Recreational rafting at Panbang)
