Tangtong Gyalpo and His Divine Inventions
The earliest biography of Tangtong Gyalpo was authored by his nephew Kongchog Dewa Jungna, who managed the Phari Temple on the Tibet-Bhutan border. Tangtong Gyalpo, the revered Mahasiddhi, is believed to have been born in 1361 and to have passed away in 1485, giving him a lifespan of 124 years, a detail frequently noted in Bhutanese literature.

1. He lived for more than 124 years.
2. It is believed he learned from over 500 teachers.
3. He is said to have entered the world as a manifestation of both Cherizig (Avalokitesvara) and Yidam Tandrim, similar to Padmasambhava.
4. He is thought to be a reincarnation of Mahasiddha Kukuripa, one of the 84 Mahasiddhas of India.
5. It is said that he spent 60 years in his mother’s womb before being born, completing the sexagenary cycle in the womb.
6. He was born at the age of 60.
7. At birth, he reportedly uttered the mantra 'Om Mani Padme Hung.'
8. He is also known as Tsundup Zangpo, a name reflecting his exceptional craftsmanship.
9. In addition to Bhutan, he traveled to India, Kashmir, Nepal, Ladakh, Mongolia, and China.
Notable Contemporaries of Thangtong Gyalpo:
1. Tshongkhapa (1357) - Founder and reformer of the Gelukpa school.
2. Khedrup Je Geleg Pelzang (1385) - Principal disciple of Tshongkhapa.
3. Gedun Drubpa (1391) - The first Dalai Lama.
4. Kuenga Lekpai Zangpo (1455) - Commonly known as Lam Drukpa Kuenley.
In 1434, he imported 7,500 horse-loads of raw iron from Bhutan to Tibet.
