🐆 Spotted Leopard Dorid / Sea Slug / Nudibranch 🐆

We LOVE our Nudies around here 😉 We don't see nudibranch often enough, but every time, it's like a glimpse at another world 🌊

Also in those slides, some purple Sea urchins, a giant green anemone, some kelp crabs and a gray whale waving with its fin 🐋 🦀

Close, from shore, Whale Encounter 🐋 👀

These Gray Whales feed in the shallows, close to river mouths and this is the perfect season to see them from shore on the West Coast on Vancouver Island.

🌊 Turkish Towel 🌊

This amazing seaweed is used its cosmetics a lot for it's gel BUT the cool thing about it, is ut's adaptability to it's environment.

Depending on the flow of water, the depth where it's found and water temperature, the color, texture and edges of the Turkish towel will change appearance.

Exploring the tide pools with us is like a guided visit to the aquarium, but better!

I'll never stop being amazed at what hides in there, and it's never the same. Between each tide, the pools change!

A small population of Blue Eyed Mary in the central Vancouver Island and some Gulf Island have a special gene that make their leaves spotted purple.

We are incredibly fortunate to live and play here, on unceeded Kwakwaka'wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth and Coast Salish people's Territory.

This is me, the lady behind Tales on Trails 🐞

Happy International Women's Day ✨️

Tales on Trails is Woman owned and operated. It's just me, really. I am incredibly passionate about this project and pour all my heart into it every time I get a chance.

I hosted my first school group this week and can not wait to book more. The educational part of our program is why I started Tales on Trails. And seeing kids take interest in the natural world is my biggest pride.

I also use "we" often when I write for Tales on Trails, but it's always just me.
And it's a lot of work.

I'm an IT
A marketing specialist (as if 😅)
A content creator
An accountant (doing the taxes 🥳)
A tour guide
A nature educator (took me while to own that one)
A driver
A graphic designer (actually qualified for this one)
A business owner and
A woman

That last one is not a job, but it's definitely something to consider when you have to cut yourself a space in an industry where most leaders are men, and you take strangers in the backcountry 😆

Look at these beauties!

Now the one we saw yesterday was far too quick for us to snap a shot, but we did indeed see a very cute and cautious MINK on tour yesterday!

These cuties are actually quite vicious. In the mustelid family, they live in semi aquatic environment. They were almost extinct after all the fur trade dealings.

It was incredible to see one in the winter, when the park is so busy in the summer. Our winter tours are truly special 💚
