Despite the cloud cover, this hike from Little Cove along the Bruce Trail towards Driftwood Cove was stunning! Park in the Little Cove Beach parking lot off of Little Cove Rd (just south of Tobermory off of Rt. 6). Head down the paved path to the beach at Little Cove, then turn right on the Bruce Trail. There are toilets at the start of the trail. This trail requires some rock scrambling and butt scooting which can be slippery if wet! But the hike is lush and you get some lovely views of Georgian Bay and Little Cove from the escarpment.

"Unfortunately, many paints are essentially a plastic coating. Leaving painted rocks in parks adds another source of micro plastics for our ecosystems to absorb...Even a responsibly painted rock can inspire a heap of irresponsibly painted ones."

We love it when visitors share their artistic creations with us. However, a new trend is starting to cause problems province-wide: painted rocks.

Today is World Drowning Prevention Day

Please remember these swimming safety tips when visiting Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park.🌊

- All swimming at park locations is unsupervised, so know your swimming limits and stay within them.
- Unconfident swimmers and children should wear life jackets.
- The water may look tropical blue, but the water remains cold year-round, even in the summer!
- Never swim alone and keep an eye on swimmers at all times.
- Cliff jumping in the National Park is highly discouraged and a leading cause of drownings.

Campfires are now allowed, with the appropriate fire permit in place.

The Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula is pleased to announce the lifting of the Provincial and Municipal Fire Ban following recent improvements in weather and fire conditions.

Effective July 11, 2023 at 4:00pm, residents and visitors are now permitted to have permitted fires within designated areas.

The decision to remove the fire ban has been made after careful consideration of current environmental conditions, including weather patterns, precipitation levels, and consultation with local fire authorities. With these favorable conditions, the risk of wildfires has significantly diminished, allowing for the safe resumption of burning activities with an approved permit.

Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire and Emergency Services continues to urged citizens to take the following precautions when using fire:

- Obtain necessary permits: All controlled fires within the Municipality do require a fire permit including agricultural burns, campfires, fireworks, and open-air burning. A fire permit can be obtained via https://nbp.burnpermits.com/home

- Always supervise fires: Never leave a fire unattended. Stay with it until it is completely extinguished.

- Choose fire-safe areas: Ensure the fire is ignited in designated fire pits or areas specifically allocated for controlled burning. Avoid starting fires in dry or windy conditions.

- Prepare water and fire extinguishing equipment: Have ample water or fire extinguishing tools nearby to quickly suppress any unwanted flames.

- Report emergencies promptly: If a fire gets out of control or poses a threat, immediately contact 911.

Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire and Emergency Services will continue to closely monitor the fire conditions and may reintroduce fire restrictions if conditions deteriorate. Residents and visitors are encouraged to stay updated through local news outlets, official government websites, and social media channels for any future announcements.

This goes for anywhere you are staying on the Peninsula, not just camping!

We all need to do our part to protect the black bears of the Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula.

The small population of black bears in the area are a genetically unique group. They are cut off from other populations in Ontario.

Please make sure to keep a “BARE” Campsite. Clean up any food, dishes, or scented items (ie. BBQ, toiletries, garbage, etc), and store them in a hard-sided vehicle/trailer/motorhome (not in a tent, tent-trailer or bed of a pick-up truck) when not in use.

You can’t beat a fall hike to the Grotto in Bruce Peninsula National Park. You can complete a great loop by parking at Cyrus Lake head of trails and taking the Georgian Bay Trail to the Bruce Trail along the Georgian Bay shoreline. Turn left on the Bruce Trail towards the Grotto. Continue past the Grotto to Boulder Beach and take the Marr Lake Trail back to the parking lot. The trail near the Grotto is very rocky and slippery, and Boulder beaches are shaky ground. Georgian Bay and Marr Lake trails are fairly flat and less rugged overall.

Forest bathing and amazing views! Park at the Halfway Log Dump trailhead inside Bruce Peninsula National Park. Take the Log Dump Trail, which will end at the Bruce Trail. From here you can walk down to the boulder beach on Georgian Bay. Back on the Bruce Trail, head west towards Stormhaven. We ended this hike at Cave Point before hiking back to Halfway Log Dump. This hike is a little less than 3.5 miles, and took about 1.5 hours plus stopping to take in the views. There are a few pretty steep, rocky spots - sturdy hiking boots and ability to climb a little like a goat here and there are recommended 😂
