The Canigó has the multiple layers of an onion with an old curriculum. Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer and the Flama del Canigó, Pere el Gran and the Catalan spirit, the abbeys of Sant Martí and Sant Miquel, and so on. In the center of it all, the massive massif. A great natural reserve that imposes itself, from the Rosselló plains that start near the sea, to the 2,800 mt of unevenness of the high peaks. Mountain of many slopes, each with its own peculiarities and changing landscapes. The valleys facing south with a lower and Mediterranean vegetation and those facing north more humid and lush forests.
The Tour of Canigó is an important challenge. In 3 hard days we will accumulate, in a relatively short distance of 130 km, about 5000 mt that become long at some stage. Tracks mostly in good condition, shorter but irregular sections, some fun trails and the necessary orientation from Vernet. If you do not want a too intense adventure it is better to look for an alternative to the descent to Valmanyà through the Cresta del Bessís. The Vuelta al Canigó is rewarded with attractive landscapes with unparalleled views of sea-mountain contrast.
