BODI TRIBE 🇪🇹

In the Bodi tribe (Ethiopia), the most desired men are those with the largest bellies. The bigger your belly, the more attractive you are.
Bodi men compete to be the fattest in the village by drinking a gruesome mixture of blood and milk while living in isolation for SIX months
Ethiopia’s Bodi or Me’en tribe, the bigger the better is the case. The Bodi people, live in a remote corner of Ethiopia’s Omo Valley and is home to young men who do all it takes to be crowned the fattest man.
and fed special meals and concoction for six months and after that, emerge to show off their newly engorged physiques and for a winner to be chosen. The champion “fat man” is then feted as a hero for the rest of his life.

“Ethiopia Shall Rise” by Kwame Nkrumah

President Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of 🇬🇭Ghana once wrote a poem on Ethiopia🇪🇹

Ethiopia shall rise

Ethiopia, Africa’s bright gem
Set high among the verdant hills
That gave birth to the unfailing
Waters of the Nile
Ethiopia shall rise
Ethiopia, land of the wise;
Ethiopia, bold cradle of Africa’s ancient rule
And fertile school
Of our African culture;
Ethiopia, the wise
Shall rise
And remould with us the full figure
Of Africa’s hopes
And destiny.

Ethiopia's first international model and Pan African Activist Yeharerwerk Gashaw shaking hands with South African President Nelson Mandela and DRC's President Mobutu Sese Seko
She is also the Vice President of United States of Africa ,was the first African Woman and concerned citizen who introduced continental drugs prevention and awareness campaign in Africa in 1990 featured on Nigerian Television tagged "No Drugs For Africa."

In 1990 she was selected to welcome Nelson Mandela by Marshall Mobutu Sese Seko at Goma Airport. While in Goma, she was appointed as Mandela's assistant. She traveled with Mandela for some time assisting him with translations and organizing his visits within African countries as a Pan-Africanist activist.

Yeharerwerk was the official guest of Zaire, now DR Congo, where she introduced her peace and reconciliation proposal to Marshall Mobutu Sese Seko in order for him and the rebel leaders Laurent-Désiré Kabila, Étienne Tshisekedi, and the rest of the oppositional leaders like Gerard Kamanda wa Kamanda to come together. In 1995 she also presented the same proposal to Mandela so he could mediate between Mobutu, Étienne Tshisekedi, and Laurent-Désiré Kabila. Her campaign while in Zaire was covered by Zaire media where she was named Person of The Week for her efforts to bring peace upon both groups as Pan-Africanists for Zaire unity.
Have you been to Ethiopia to see amazing things about the land of origins?

“Ethiopia🇪🇹 has always held a special place in my own imagination and the prospect of visiting Ethiopia attracted me more strongly than a trip to France, England, and America combined. I felt I would be visiting my own genesis, unearthing the roots of what made me an African. Meeting the emperor himself would be like shaking hands with history.”
Excerpt from:
Mandela, Nelson. “Long Walk to Freedom.”

Why Ethiopia Coffee is in High Demand in the World Over?

Ethiopian Coffee is brewed around the world and is in high demand due to its richness, unique flavor notes, and the skilled farmers who tend to the crop.

It is no surprise that coffee production is an important industry and source of income for Ethiopia.

High elevations, volcanic soil and temperate climates result in bright, acidic and fruit-toned coffees unique to the east African region is well loved by many coffee drinkers.

Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of the coffee bean. The first Arabica coffee plants were cultivated here and farmers continue to harvest the bulk of the crop from wild coffee plants as they have for centuries.

Drinking coffee is deeply embedded in Ethiopian tradition and while Ethiopia is one of the largest coffee producing countries in Africa, the locals consume about half the coffee produced each year.

Yirgacheffe is a coffee region in southern Ethiopia that produces distinctly floral and fruit-toned coffees.

Great news today on the return of looted Ethiopian artefacts.

"Following discussions with the management of Busby Auctioneers and Valuers, an agreement has been reached, today, on the withdrawal of two Ethiopian artefacts that were due to go to auction on 17th June 2021.

The two items – an Ethiopian bible on vellum housed in a sewn leather satchel, together with an Ethiopian cross; and a set of graduated horn beakers – are from the estate of Major-General William Arbuthnot, a serving member of the late 19th-century expedition to Abyssinia, which culminated in the battle of Maqdala.

On 9th June 2021, in line with the Government’s longstanding position on the return of looted artefacts from Maqdala, the Embassy made a formal request to Busby Auctioneers and Valuers for the withdrawal of the items from auction with a view to facilitating their eventual repatriation to Ethiopia.

Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Beyene Gebremeskel said:

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Busby. These items are of immense cultural, spiritual, and historical value to Ethiopians. Current and future generations of Ethiopians are deserving of the restitution of their cultural heritage, so we very much look forward to returning these precious items to Ethiopia in due course.”

The Embassy will remain in dialogue with Busby Auctioneers and Valuers on arrangements for the return of the items to their rightful home in Ethiopia."
