BEAD NECKLACES OF THE NYANGATOM WOMEN
The young girls are given a beaded necklace by their fathers. On special days, occasions or ceremonies, the girls receive more necklaces. The more necklaces, the better, and when they are married, they also receive more strands of these wooden, glass, or plastic beads. The quantity, quality, and type of beaded necklaces represent richness and symbolism of the women’s social status.

The Bull Jumping Ceremony(Ukuli Bulla) is a rite of passage into manhood for a young Hamer man and there are several stages of the initiation process. Once his family has announced a jump date, he must act as an ukule (donkey) to the elders and assume any task that is asked of him. After successfully jumping, the young man becomes a charkale, accompanying other triumphant jumpers in the calming of the bulls at other ceremonies. After 8 days, the young man becomes a Maza, and remains in this role until a date to wed has been set.

witness this rare Hamer tribe ceremony. This clan was celebrating the transitional phase of a boy from boyhood to manhood. The event starts with the men getting face painting using special materials while the woman and girls are dancing. What was special and shocking for me is that the females asking the males to whip them with birch stick. The greater the physical pain, the more devotion they are believed to show to the boy who is about to become a man. Their back bleeds but instead of screaming they tease the men, asking for more lashes. The critical part of this ritual is that the boy must ran across the backs of a line of bulls. Once it is accomplished, he becomes known as a Maza, and is entitled to take the first of several brides.Everyone will celebrate and get drunk.

This January 2018 luckily saw Donga again which was basically younger suri tribes solving their disagreement on girls belonging and one can win the tournament in front of elderly Surmas and became man of the disagreement point and take over.
The Surma people’s religious beliefs are one of the most interesting that you’ll ever encounter. Like many other cultures, the main deity of the Surma is a sky God, named Tuma. Along with this, they believe in spirits and use medicine men to conduct sacrifices and other acts of worship to send them directly to Tuma. This position is heredity, being given only to one male in the tribe. When he is needed, the men of the tribe collect wood-chips from a particular tree and squeeze out all of the juices and sap. Then, these tree-juices are mixed with clay and poured over a man’s body, thereby yielding rain or other requests. Ancestors are also greatly respected throughout the culture, believing that they affect the living people’s success, health, and fortune. Some of their holy acts include throwing small wooden sticks or sandals, reading of cattle entrails, and interpretations of bird songs and flight, which they have a great respect for their abilities. Typically, the Surma show no interest in other religions like Christianity or Islam. Related Missionary work was initiated among the Surma in the early 1970’s. Due to various outside pressures, however, this Christian outreach lasted only a few years before leaving. A church was not established and today, there are no known Christians in Surma culture. Their language has no written form or holy scribes. Even today, Christian missionaries are still in the early and unsuccessful stages of attempting to convert Surma people. The Surma people are indeed resilient to the outside Christian influences and prioritize keeping their culture and religion pure. The Surma’s people view on death and life after death are quite unique than modern cultures in various ways. The Surma strictly believe that dead people are wicked and cannot be touched. For a funeral to take place, attendants must wash the deceased in sheep’s blood to cleanse themselves of impurities. If warriors die during battle, they are left in the spot of thei
