Do you know the classification ?
Several centuries ago, when the “Bourg” (town) of Bordeaux was under English rule, the merchants were exempt from taxes on local sales and on the export of wines produced from their vineyards. This privilege allowed them to make their fortunes, and for these 15th century "bourgeois" to acquire the best plots in the Médoc, which soon became known as the “Crus des Bourgeois". The prices of these various wines were established for the first time in 1740 in a document drawn up by the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce.

The "petit pois" or "green peace" stage of the vine is an important moment in the vine's development cycle. This step after flowering and fruit set, when the berries begin to form and grow. At this exact moment, they reach the size of a peace, hence the name of this stage. This is a decisive period, as it directly influences the quality and quantity of the harvest to come. 🌱
Château Belair Monange the emblematic Saint-Emilion vineyard adjacent to the village and overlooking the Dordogne river valley, began its remarkable viticultural journey in the 17th century: in 1691, the property was already renowned for its wines.
Owned for over 200 years by the Canolle de Lescours family, the vineyard began blossoming in earnest in the 18th century, under the influence of first Jacques François Joseph Canolle de Lescours, 2nd generation at the helm of the property, then of his son, François Antoine Joseph.
On the eve of the French Revolution, the wines of Bélair were sold at two or three times the price of other “grands vins” from Saint-Émilion. As early as 1802, part of the wine produced was bottled at the Château, an extremely rare practice at the time.
