Attending the Paralympics Events this evening was beyond inspiring this evening! We watched and cheered on athletes from around the globe for the Track and Field events! Congratulations to all of the athletes! 🎉 that the first Paralympic Games were held in 1960 in Rome, alongside the Olympic Games, with 400 athletes from 23 countries participating in the event?! Contrary to popular belief, the name of the event doesn’t come from merging the words « paralysis » and « Olympics » together. The word « Paralympics » stems from the Greek preposition « para » meaning « alongside » and referring to the event running alongside the Olympics! 💪

🩷 A TRUE LOVE STORY!!! 🩷Five years ago, Chris re-proposed to his wife, Serena, after twenty years of marriage! The first time around, he was just out of college and couldn’t buy her the 💍 she deserved! She said « oui » bien sûr and now they are back in Paris to celebrate their love, in the City of Love, for their 25 year wedding anniversary! We simply had to revisit the I Love You Wall in Montmartre where the re-proposal occurred, down on one knee and the perfect 💍 for his blushing bride too! 🩷

This afternoon, we travelled out to St. Denis to tour the Olympic and Paralympic Village! Videos and photos inside are not allowed, but we snagged a few snaps outside and learned a lot from our guide, Ben! that Paris was the first Olympic host city to build the first-ever Olympic Village?! The City of Light last hosted the Summer Olympics 100 years ago and organisers wanted to house all athletes under the same roof! The Olympic Village was made up of furnished wood huts and was demolished shortly after. A century later, we are doing something completely different, making Paris 2024 the most responsible and sustainable games in history! And, Paris 2024 could not leave the athletes out of the conception of the Olympic and Paralympic Village! Athletes from the five continents shared their vision of the ideal Village, building a Village by athletes, for athletes! And, this Olympic and Paralympic Village has been built as something that’s meant to last, turning into homes and office spaces once the Games come to an end!

When gal pal loves Marie Antoinette as much as you do, a visit to is a must on a girlie afternoon of lunching and shopping! 🍫 Debauve et Gallais is one of the oldest chocolate shops in all of France!🇫🇷 It was founded by Sulpice Debauve, the pharmacist to King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette! Debauve would later become the Royal Chocolatier! Marie Antoinette refused to take medicine due to its unpleasant taste so Debauve reinvented her meds by mixing them with cocoa, creating chocolate covered « pistoles » that the queen could take to relieve her migraines! These special chocolates were his first step into the world of gourmet delicacies and today his sweet traditions live in at boutiques in Paris!

OMG, you guys! So many of you have asked about my Bœuf Bourguignon recipe from last weeks stories! #didyouknow that Bœuf Bourguignon dates back to the Middle Ages and was considered peasants food?! During this time, slow cooking was popular in rural areas because it was cheap, filling and could feed many mouths? Since then, the popular dish has evolved to a staple of French cuisine and is one of my favourite dishes! Today, I am going to share with you, my go to recipe, courtesy of @anthonybourdain 2lbs beef, cut into 1½” pieces Salt and pepper ¼ cup olive oil 4 onions, thinly sliced 2 tbsp flour 1 C red Burgundy 6 carrots, cut into 1” pieces 1 clove garlic 1 bouquet garni Chopped parsley 1. Season the meat with salt and pepper. In a Dutch oven, heat the oil over high heat until it is almost smoking. Add the meat in batches and sear on all sides until it is browned, setting it aside as it finishes. When all the meat is a nice, dark brown color and has been set aside, add the onions to the pot. Lower the heat to medium high until the onions are soft and golden brown (about 10 minutes). Sprinkle the flour over them. Continue to cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, then add the red wine. Scrape up all that really good fond from the bottom of the pot with your wooden spoon. Bring the wine to a boil. 2. Return the meat to the pot and add the carrots, garlic and bouquet garni. Add just enough water (and two big spoons of demi-glace, if you have it) so that the liquid covers the meat by one-third -- meaning you want a ratio of 3 parts liquid to 2 parts meat. This is a stew, so you want plenty of liquid even after it cooks down and reduces. Bring to a boil, reduce to a gentle simmer, and let cook for about 2 hours, or until the meat is tender. (Check the dish every 15 to 20 minutes, stirring and scraping the bottom of the pot to make sure the meat is not sticking or scorching. You should also skim off any foam or scum or oil collecting on the surface

It’s #winewednesday and today I am taking you back to the Loire Valley where I was holidaying a couple of weeks ago! One day, we spent the afternoon visiting the local caves of Reuilly! I had never heard of this appellation before and was happy to learn about these news wines. The vineyards of Reuilly date back to the early 7th century, when Dagobert I, King of the Franks, gifted the land to the Abbey of Saint-Denis. These vineyards supplied wine to the nearby medieval towns of Bourges and Vierzon, and was shipped as far as Paris, England and Flanders, via the Cher and Loire Rivers! In 1365, the Duke of Berry, issued a charter overseeing the wine production in Reuilly which stipulated harvest dates and established a wine tax on these wines! At the end of the 19th century, after the phylloxera vine disease ravished the land, new vines were planted and local winemaking was revived! 🍇 One of the local specialties is called Le Reuilly Gris. This wine is made with 100% Pinot Gris grapes, using the « rosé de pressée » method, meaning the grapes are pressed as soon as they are harvested. Our Story

Bonjour! It's great to see you! Welcome to April in Paris Tours!

I'd like to start off by telling you a little more about myself. My name is April Pett and I am the force behind April in Paris Tours! I was born in the small town of Thorold, Ontario in Canada and came to Paris for the first time at the age of 17 with my high school language program. It was love at first site! As I exited the métro at Place de la Concorde, my eyes grew wide with excitement as they marveled at the magnificent, gold-dipped Luxor Obelisk and elegant dancing fountains, overseen from a distance by the magnificent Eiffel Tower. It was a moment that would define my life, yet never did I imagine that a decade later, I would be packing up all of my belongings into a suitcase with a one way ticket to this incredible city.

I originally came to Paris with dreams to pursue a Masters in Translation at the Sorbonne University, but after working as a tour guide for a season, my passion for travel and culture led me naturally to my next step. It was time to launch my own tour company, and voilà, April in Paris Tours was born!

In my opinion, the REAL Paris, isn’t the one you read about in guidebooks. It comes from wandering the streets, eating in less known cafés, observing the locals and looking through windows and doors (in the most inconspicuous manner possible).
