Talgarth Visitor Centre

Talgarth Visitor Centre Talgarth Visitor Centre is manned by a helpful band of volunteers, from 10:00 - 2:00 Mon to Sat.

In the late 1990s Talgarth Trust was started by a small group of volunteers to help revitalise the town following the traumatic winding down and closure of the mid-Wales Hospital, one of the town's main employers. Talgarth Tourist Information Centre was set up as part of the Trust which had ceased by 2000, but the Centre continued as a Community Association. By 2004 the organisation had grown to e

ncompass many new ventures and was renamed Talgarth Information and Resource Centre. Originating with tourist information, the centre has gone from strength to strength now catering for many local people who require information such as train/bus timetables, doctors, library, church, theatre programmes etc. The Centre is a valuable source of information in the Town for locals and visitors alike. As well as having information regarding local events, we also have a key to St Gwendonline’s Church which may be borrowed from us by visitors, and there is also a RADAR key for the public toilets.

Talgarth Visitor Centre windows are looking splendid for the D-Day anniversary on June 6th. There's alot of information (as you would expect) about that time and a competition to see how many you soldiers you can find hidden in the display. Congratulations to our volunteers, Heather and Brian Summerfield, who created the window display.
Heather was recently presented with the Powys Silver Kite award in recognition of her contribution to volunteering in Talgarth and her work as a foster carer. We are very lucky to have them both on the TVC team.

Happy New Year to our supporters, customers and friends. Thank you for bearing with our changeable opening times. As you know the Visitor Centre is staffed entirely by volunteers and this year the team has had to cope with a hip replacement, a knee replacement, a broken knee, a broken wrist, shingles and a bunionectomy! Despite all this we've managed to stay open and hope to extend our hours in the new year. If you'd like to help out for a few hours a week don't hesitate to drop in and leave your details. We are usually open from 10:00 - 2:00 Monday to Saturday. We have a few copies of the "Talgarth Views" calendar for sale and also the "Talgarth Through the Years" photograph book.
We're having a break now and will re-open on Monday January 8th. See you in 2024.

The Tourist Centre in Talgarth has a range of books that would make great gifts this Christmas. We have the recently published "Talgarth Through the Years" by Adam Gareth Price. A marvellous book filled with photographs capturing the day-to-day life of Talgarth over a period of 80 years.
"Community in the Brecon Beacons" features a range of community initiatives taking place across the Brecon Beacons, the UK and across the world. It gives an insight into why and how people are trying to improve their communities and the pressures they may face in the future.
"Up Top" is a history of the Mid Wales Hospital over the last 100 years. From asylum to POW camp to its sad demise, it's chequered history is recorded in this book.
We also have the"Talgarth Views" calendar featuring a beautiful local image for every month of 2024.
Come in and have a browse around the shop - you'll be surprised what you may find.

Finally the decoration of the front of the Visitor Centre is complete and I'm sure you'll agree we look very smart. Gaining planning permission took ages but as we are situated in a Grade 2 listed building, we needed to get everything approved. Our thanks to landlords Tim and Nicky who advised us about the colour choice and to Adam Price who helped us through the process.
We try to open from 10 until 2 from Monday to Saturday but this does depend on how many volunteers we have. If you need any photocopying, printing or laminating please call 07806636621 and if possible we will try to meet at a time to suit you.
Don't forget the 2024 Talgarth Calendar is now available and is selling fast. We'll also have a selection of Christmas cards featuring local scenes so do drop in - you'll be pleasantly surprised at the range of items for sale.
