Wow!! Thank you, thank you to all who have donated to our Crowdfunder so far!!! We are now half way there! We are so grateful to you all for your generous donations and kid words of support - it really does mean the world!

We are super excited about plans and have been working on designs and timeline with our carpenter and all-round wood magician- Andrew Coates, who is as excited about this build as we are! He has already milled and reserved locally sourced chestnut for the build and we are working on ways to make the shelter as warm and cozy in the winter as possible. We are blocking out October Half Term for the build and we can't wait to replace our holey parachute with a sturdy and waterproof structure!

We now have to see if we can raise the fund for the build by then! £1500 to go in 9 weeks - we can do it!!

To help, please head to our GoFundMe page: https://gofund.me/899f5114

Thanks everyone! Please continue to help us by sharing with friends and families - every little helps!

Gratitude and well wishes to you all,

Lucy & the Bee Team xx

A huge congratulations to our wonderful kindergarten educator Daisy for qualifying as an Early Years Teacher and gaining her MA in Early Years.

Daisy has had a very busy year, supporting the opening of our new site at Stanmer while studying for both her EYTS AND MA.

Daisy is the kindest, nurturing and loving educator that the children adore.

We’re all so proud of you.

“We are anemone rescuers!”

At a recent beach school session the children had a joint mission to rescue and protect the anemones they found in the rock pools.
“There’s an anemone out of water! Two of them. One half out, one all out.” FS
“They need help! They don’t have any water. Get water! There we go. They can survive now!” CK
“Let’s help together!” IC
“Anemone rescue! Anemone rescuers!” CK
”Pour it slowly! Don’t squash it.” OG
“We never ever want to let these dry out!” IC
“You guys keep on that one, I’ll go to this one.” CK
Such wonderful collaborative play with nature at the heart of it all.

It’s elderflower season at Bee in the Woods! What better way to connect with nature, work together and enjoy the flavours of the season evolving around us. Being immersed in nature every day helps children to appreciate the gradual changes of the forest. Especially nice when some of the changes smell and taste so great!

World Book Day!

At Bee in the Woods we love to read together every day and we believe there is nothing more important than encouraging a passionate love of reading. To celebrate World Book Day today we invited our little bees to bring their favourite books from home to share together.

Did you know?

⏱That children who read for 20 minutes a day will be exposed to around 2 million words a year

🧐Reading fiction is proven to make you a better decision maker

🥳Reading is also proven to reduce stress levels by up to 68%

So what will you read tonight?

At Kindy we have been enjoying taking part in the Bird Garden Birdwatch and have really enjoyed watching the birds on our allotment. We have been keeping the feeders topped up to encourage lots of different visitors.  We have recently spotted long tailed t**s, robins, great t**s and collared doves.

Looking for high quality childcare this Spring? We’re enrolling for April 2024!!
🌳
Our outdoor, woodland based kindergartens for ages 3-7years have two enrollments a year; one in September and another, smaller intake in April. Spaces at are unique setting are in high demand in the summer and most of our spaces for 3-4 year olds have gone. There are also still a few spaces remaining for reception deferred and home educated 4-7 year olds.
🐝
Seeing is believing. Our setting is like no other locally. Set in beautiful woodland with space and open sky. Our children grow veg in the garden and harvest in the summer to cook and eat together. They learn first hand about the natural world under the care of a highly qualified and caring team of teachers. We love watching little ones grow and thrive in the woods!
🌳
Come and have a look around out Portslade site, meet our passionate team and find out more about enrolling this Thursday 8th Feb between 10am-12pm. Book online through our website for further details.

💚A beautiful family morning celebrating Imbolc: a time of renewal and new beginnings.

🥖 Families joined us in Stanmer woods for planting seeds, crafts, bees wax balm making and a tasty snack of seasonal soup and bread cooked over the campfire. All to mark the first signs of spring.

🌱 The earth is waking up from its winter slumber, the evenings are getting lighter and plants around us are sprouting. It’s one of our favourite times of the year!

Happy Storytelling week!

At Bee in the Woods we have a culture of storytelling. It forms part of so much that we do.

It’s been wonderful watching the children evolve as storytellers. We’ve found that when we are out roaming around Stanmer Woods, the children are inspired to become natural storytellers through their play. The fallen tree becomes an elephant, the wood chip mountain becomes a dragon, the den of sticks becomes a home for a unicorn. Narratives start forming and often continues over days spent in the woods.

Sometimes we just tell these stories verbally. Other times we record the children’s words to re-visit later. We feel so lucky to have these beautiful landscapes to inspire us!

Our Story

The first of it's kind in Brighton and Hove, Bee in the Woods Kindergarten is childcare setting based outdoors, all year round, rain or shine.

We believe that the outdoors is the best place for children to learn. The natural world is a magical learning environment that enables children to be natural born scientists. Their instinct to investigate, to explore and to make sense of their world through their imaginations and play is nurtured by the changing seasons and unlimited supply of open-ended resources. Forest school strips away walls and ceilings, giving children the freedom they need and deserve and empowering them to think creatively, critically and with curiosity.

Bee in the Woods Kindergarten is a social enterprise. Our social purpose is to provide early years education that helps 3-7 year olds from every background progress and feel good about themselves, each other and their environment through play and engagement with nature. We aim to invest in community engagement and environmental awareness projects in order to build greater community cohesion and reduce social isolation.
