We are so lucky to have these amazing restaurants on our doorstep.

A sublime Lakeland view for the most wonderful night for Cumbria at the Michelin Star awards.

The county now has an amazing 13 restaurants and pubs with Michelin Stars, Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume in Cartmel retaining his three stars.

Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside (James Cross) and the Cedar Tree Restaurant at Farlam Hall near Brampton (Hrishikesh Desai) received their first star.

Retaining their one stars were Rogan and Co in Cartmel, The Old Stamp House in Ambleside, Allium at Askham Hall near Ullswater, Heft at High Newton near Cartmel, The Samling near Ambleside, Forest Side at Grasmere, SOURCE at Gilpin Hotel near Windermere, Pentonbridge Inn near Longtown, Cottage in the Wood at Whinlatter and the Dog and Gun at Skelton near Penrith.

The Sommelier Award 2024 went to Valentin Mouillard at L’Enclume while Simon Rogan’s Aulis in London gained its first Michelin Star as well.

So….what a fabulous night for the Lake District, for Cumbria, for the chefs and their teams and for the people who supply them with such outstanding produce. Huge congratulations to all.

Such great places to eat literally just down the road! Simon Rogan’s Our Farm is a 5 minute walk along our lane and both L’Enclume and Rogans are a within a mile 🍾🥂

We have just spend Christmas at this beautiful home. Tamara was very responsive before our trip with recommendations of places to go and last minute changes. Tamara welcomed us when we arrived and even loaned my mum some wellies as she had forgotten hers. She said she was right on hand if we needed her but we didn’t as we had everything we needed for our stay! Sitting in the hot tub over the lakes was a real treat. The walk into the village is manageable for children (age 3&5) the village has a lovely park , shops and a collection of pubs and restaurants. Idyllic. The house itself was like nothing we’ve stayed in before, charming and unique and absolutely immaculate. Lots of space and an incredibly well equipped kitchen, perfect for making our Christmas dinner! The shared spaces were so comfy and homely and we enjoyed the games cupboard a lot! Having the horses just a few meters away when we opened the door was a real dream for our daughter. Thank you for having us

What a wonderful home to stay in. It suited our large party very well. The hot tub was brilliant, with fantastic and panoramic views of the valley. Set up a quiet lane, the house was so peaceful and the walk into Cartmel was along a quiet lane to the racecourse and took about 15 -20 mins to walk and about 5 mins to cycle. Tamara was a fantastic host and responded very quickly to any queries. She had left lovely local food and drink as welcome gifts, and we were welcomed to her open day for the beautiful Fresian horses on her farm. We are very lucky to have found her house and would definitely recommend it for families and friends who want to enjoy tranquility and comfort in a lovely house with all the kitchen equipment you might need, but within walking distance of the wonderful restaurants of Cartmel.

You can meet EVERYONE (both two legged and four legged!) you will have an insight to their day to day care and training; you will get to see our horses work their magic 🖤

Even if you know nothing about horses, even if you’ve never touched one before; feel free to pop in and make yourself at home!

Those of you who have visited Greenbank Farm and The Friesian Experience know how wonderful it is to hear the birdsong here. You can literally sit and listen to it all day 😊 so this article isn't surprising!

Birdsong boosts mental wellbeing for 90% of people, UK poll finds.

Watching birds and hearing birdsong have a positive impact on wellbeing for more than nine in 10 people, according to a survey to mark the largest garden wildlife count in the world.

A YouGov poll commissioned by the RSPB found that 88% of UK adults said spending time outdoors enjoying the natural world was important to them, with 53% stating it was very important, while 91% agreed that seeing birds and hearing birdsong had a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing.

Spending time in woodlands, wetlands and other natural spaces has been shown by various studies to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Dr Amir Khan, the president of the RSPB, said: “Working as a GP, I know just how important accessing green spaces is for our physical and mental wellbeing. Watching the blue t**s and bullfinches enjoying the feeders in my garden is a constant source of comfort for me, and being on the frontline of the NHS I am very aware that comfort is something we all need now more than ever.”

GREENBANK FARM , Holiday Long Weekend
We had an absolutely perfect long weekend holiday break , just gone , as a get-together prior to Christmas . It was all organised by my wife to coincide with the Christmas Fair in Cartmel , and we were thrilled to see the beautiful black Friesian horses depart the farm adorned with white lights and parade through the village during the late afternoon complete with carriage and Father Christmas ! The farm was immaculately presented , very well equipped , extremely comfortable , and offers real charm , character and history dating back to the 1660’s . The views across the valley , to the Priory and the sea beyond , and the clear night sky were amazing . Thank you Tracey and Tamara for providing us all with such a wonderful experience , and such happy memories .
