It has been a week since our annual awards for theatre and music, and what a time was had! With live music from the Quays, refreshment from John Snow College bar and plenty of street food from Alpine 21, 120 students and staff guests came together to celebrate the incredible achievements of our students from the last year.

Well done to all the winners, nominees, and every other group, production and individual who has taken part in the performing arts this year. It's been an outstanding programme, and we cannot wait to see what is on the list for next year!

It's Beethoven Week in the Performing Arts!

We have two performances of Beethoven symphonies this week in Durham Student Music. Beethoven's Ninth in Durham Cathedral sees a collaboration of two of our oldest and largest societies, Durham University Orchestral Society and Durham University Choral Society. The next day, the Orchestral Society chamber orchestra will realise the iconic Beethoven's Fifth (ba-da-ba-duuuuuum!) in Durham Town Hall.

This week in music offers some of the most iconic pieces of music ever composed, climaxing in Beethoven's two iconic symphonies, his 9th 'Choral' Symphony performed in Durham Cathedral by our Orchestral and Choral Societies, and the 5th Symphony, performed by a chamber orchestra in Durham Town Hall.

WE'RE GETTING EXCITED!

We're busy setting up for a lovely evening filled with music, trophies, food and fun, and looking forward to celebrating the hard work done across the worlds of music and theatre over the course of this academic year.

The event will begin at 18:30 at the Mount Oswald Hub, with carriages at 23:00. The dress code is smart, but you are encouraged to dress in the way that makes you most comfortable.

We are thrilled to announce that after raising over £1800 to support relief aid for the war in Ukraine last year, 'Fairytales' will have a retiring collection for the UK's largest Music Therapy charity, Nordoff and Robbins!

A big thank you to the Durham University Jazz Society for choosing to us at their annual ball! Guests were treated to a delicious meal at Durham Masonic Hall, followed by some brilliant musical performances from the students! There were also some fantastic prizes up for grabs as part of a raffle held in aid of the Hospice. Overall a wonderful £850 was raised!
