Lucca may not be a fan of buzzy things but is absolutely amazing at harvesting the honey. The care of taking the wax off ready for spinning is very impressive, then taking charge of the extractor has been brilliant! 27 jars from Bernard and Elizabeth will be bottled tomorrow ❤️huge thanks to Sally Kelly for her help taking the honey off 😀glad we did it yesterday as the sun has gone again! not as much honey as last year but still beautifully tasty ❤️🐝🐝🐝

Making hay while the sun shines is so true and so satisfying to finally have over 150 bales in ready for winter. We were ready for a rest after shifting to all! so happy to have got it off the field because we had rain in the night 😀 the goats will be happy 🐐

The sunshine has made all of the difference to the job list! we have had the hay cut so carting bales later, then after a quick check on Bernard and Elizabeth hives it is time to gather honey. Love summer ❤️Long may it continue. 🐝🐝🐝

One of the interesting things about having the holiday cottages you never know who is coming to stay here. When we got the bees we made the decision to stop using w**d controls and allow flowers of all kinds to support all pollinators. A few guests have commented on the 'untidiness' however last week I was thrilled when the guest in Fritillary Cottage told me she was going to do a moth survey. Over the week she saw 60 different moths!!!! how amazing is that? in the little courtyard 60 moths pop by unnoticed by most of us and they are part of world of nature that we humans need to watch more and do less to encourage all insects to do what they do best. ❤️🐝🦋🕷

It will never cease to amaze me how wonderful nature is 💕the swallows chose the barn this year to produce their babies and to witness the fledging is just beautiful if not a bit chaotic! all doing well so far. Meanwhile the bees are enjoying this weather too which is great and hope to get some honey soon! Happy summer 🐝🐝🐝

This photo is of two babies last year ( four fledged and two survived ) this morning there was the familiar sound of babies in the owl box in the barn. Here is hoping for a successful breeding season for these amazing birds ❤️

Last week when I inspected the bees there was no honey to be seen. The bees have had a hard time with the wet weather. Today the garden was full of the sound of buzzing which is my favourite sound, lets hope the weather will be kind to bees and humans alike 🐝🐝🐝❤️

We are so lucky to meet some amazing people who come to stay here for their holiday. This wind spinner is the creation of a guest called Brian and it is just so beautiful. Needless to say an order is in for more so that we can share these very interesting and mesmerising things to sell in The Hive Cafe. Definitely a reason to sit an stare and relax 🐝

The latest 'holiday accommodation' has been put up on the end of the stables. The Barn Owls are out and about and it will soon be time for nesting. The hope is that the next lot of babies will find the box and move in not the crows! 😀

At just over 2 weeks old Floella is definitely developing her personality. She loves breaking into Grandmas pen and hanging out with her for a bit. She has met the rest of the herd courtesy of Delyth who is very, very good at unpicking knots that tie gates up!!! Felicity is now on the next date of potential kidding along with the rest of the crew! never a dull moment 😀

Today we welcome Floella 🐐Freya is doing well as a first time mum ❤️ Felicity is next and she is definitely a wonderful mum. The others are due in June and only one of them was planned so it will be interesting to see what happens then 😉busy times ....

The miserable winter is well behind us! the flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing, the swallows are checking the stables for building a nest and the goats are still waiting. Happy Wednesday 🐝🐝🐝

The maternity ward is set up! Freya and Felicity are due in the next few days and the others in May. Meanwhile one of the turkeys has gone broody which is just brilliant 😀happy weekend

Very exciting setting up the incubator again! turkey eggs this time which is first for me. I am hoping our broody hen will incubate the rest so we will have poults one way or another. Meanwhile Brad, Thelma and Louise are enjoying another sunny day. 🦃🦃🦃

Moving an old chicken coop revealed a nest of common toads. A pair of them happily snuggled under a pallet so they have been left alone to chill. Always something wonderful to see 🐝

Sat on the decking tonight enjoying the late evening sunshine we had another visit from the Hummingbird Hawkmoth. A beautiful summer visitor from Europe, very special to see 🦋meanwhile the Swallows are building four nests in the stables and the bees are filling the hives with honey and the smell is amazing! in the barn there is the sound of owlets in the owl box, mum or dad can be seen out hunting, they are very busy! loving the sunshine but a drop of rain would be nice and helpful! Glorious Devon 🐝🦉🌦
