6 weeks ago, Ian stumbled upon what he thought bit of sheep fleece!
To his surprise, it was a baby barn owl— frighteningly dehydrated, malnourished and in desperate need of help🦉😲
It’s easy to mistake a healthy fledgling for an abandoned baby, and usually best to leave alone, but this little one was in real trouble 🥺
Swift action and the incredible help from @BushHouseVets along with expert rehabilitation at Gower Bird Hospital, she received the urgent care she needed and thanks to their dedication, she was nursed back to health ❤️🩹
We kept in touch and last night we were thrilled to see this stunning little girl return to her natural home and released back into the wild where she belongs 🦉💖
Her journey is such a humbling reminder of the delicate balance in nature and the incredible work done by wildlife rescuers 🌿🚑🤗
Seeing her fly free again brought tears to our eyes—grateful for places like Gower Bird Hospital that make moments like this possible 🙏🥰

🦔✨ As a wildlife and nature lover, I can’t tell you how upset and devastated I am, as earlier today, I accidentally ran over a hedgehog while moving aside for a police car 🥺😢
I’m sure there’s no need to say, their numbers continue to decline year after year, making incidents like these even more heartbreaking 💔
While Hedgehog Awareness Week may have come and gone, there’s added need to spotlight their struggles and to help our spiky friends year-round 🦔🗓️
Whatever size garden or space you may have, we should be making ‘hedgehog highways’ by adding gaps in fences and boundary walls, for them to roam 🛣️
Create log and leaf piles, and let edges and corners of your garden grow wild. Great for making it their home but attract all types of insects for them to feed on 🪵🍃🪳🦗🪲
Put out bowls of clean water (not milk) with a few pebbles so butterflies and bees can drink from them too 💦
If you have a pond, ensure there are ramped areas so they, and other wildlife, can get out safely
And needless to say, be ever more conscious when driving, especially late at night on country roads 🔦
Every small effort contributes to preserving these cute creatures. Let’s all play our part in making our gardens and spaces hedgehog-friendly to support their survival 🦔💚
