Dear All,

As we are all aware the skills shortage and training standards are at the forefront of the construction industry's agenda, there is currently no model in place to address the soon to be catastrophic effects of such a long neglected issue.

This is my approach to address those issues, but it can't be done as one! We need to create an alliance across industry, education and government to tackle this monumental hurdle. But it can be addressed if we all play or roll.

There are 500 positions on the WT Construction Pre-Employment Program available to candidates across East London, programs will commence beginning of April 2017.

We need to stop talking and start walking!

Please feel free to contact me for any additional information or please take a look at www.cwoata.co.uk for associated costs.

The way the government funds apprenticeships in England is changing.

From Spring 2017, an ‘Apprenticeship Levy’ will be introduced. This will require all employers operating in the UK, with a pay bill over £3 million each year, to make an investment in apprenticeships. As an employer, you can benefit from this investment by training apprentices.

This guidance provides information on how the apprenticeship levy will work, from when it is introduced on 6 April 2017.

Wave goodbye to the much loved (?) yellow hard hat…

From 2017, construction companies and organisations such as the Highways Agency, will insist that all staff wear hats coloured to show their job position. Supervisors will be in black, slingers and signallers will wear orange, and site managers and “competent operatives” – like Bob – should be wearing a white hat.

As Bob Dylan put it – the times they are a changin’.

New figures released by the Government show that career prospects after completing an apprenticeship are very strong. 92% of trainees are employed six months after finishing their scheme and most go on to long-term employment.
