COP26 is in full swing from today but what do we want to see?
There are a few things that we repeatedly call for:
✅ carbon labelling on transport tickets
✅ a tax on aviation fuel
✅ a moratorium on airport expansion
✅ a frequent flyer levy
✅ the cancellation of flight routes where a viable alternative exists
👍🏽 Generally we want to see some decent framework put in place for policies that will actually make a meaningful and rapid reduction in emissions.
👎🏽 What we don't want to see is the same old greenwash and empty promises that don't result in any real action.
🤔 This is a key opportunity for leaders to step up to meet the complex challenges we face but, let's be honest, it's not likely that they will do anything to astound us! 😆
So while our aims remain high, and we hope that a strong foundation is created from which we can build upon together, it's important to be realistic with our expectations; COP26 is only a two-week event.
Climate action is happening 365 days of the year, and the work will continue long after this event is over.
