South London Letterpress is run by Karen Silcock, with a medical background as a midwife in Surrey, she decided she wanted to do something creative and design-focused for her next project. Karen fell for the beautiful, whimsical letterpress stationery she was seeing on her travels and from independent printers here in the UK. Nowadays, she is on a mission to bring letterpress stationery to the Lon

don community where we live, play, and, of course, write letters. Karen is based in Clapham, the heart of busy, family-focused South London, and soon she will be turning up all over the South, as well as other parts, so keep your eyes open. Karen really enjoys sharing her finds with customers at school fairs and online, and she would love to hear from you. She also loves meeting makers and printers -- their commitment to craft and the pleasures of writing good old fashioned snail mail is inspiring. 👋👋👋I’m back from my break in the sun, so thank you for your lovely orders whilst I was away!

😎 I had such a special time - just my daughter and I - doing the things we love … relaxing without the boys, soaking up the suns glorious rays, non-stop girl talk and sipping the best Hugo Spritz’s whilst watching the sun set over the Mediterranean.

😎Such precious time spent together before she leaves for university in September, and I know I’m going to miss her SO much!

😎 I’ll be around for the rest of the summer now getting both her and her twin brother ready to go off to their next big adventure, so my shop will be open as always for those Thank you cards or pens & stationery for the new term…

😎Have a lovely summer whatever you are doing and take some quiet time out for yourself if you can… I highly recommend it! X

Did you know it is World Bee Day today?

🐝 These pollinators are so important to our eco system in many ways so this day is about raising awareness of the threat that bees face as without them 80% of the world’s flowering plants would not survive!

🐝 The protection of Bees is vital in solving problems with world hunger in developing countries and are therefore so important for the food chain…

🐝 Do you love bees? Do you plant bee loving plants in your garden? I bet you love a bit of honey on your crumpets?

🐝 We called our daughter Bea, so there you go, we love Bees!

🐝 Don’t ask me about my beehive project as it’s not going well…

Happy First of May!

🌸 I love May for so many reasons, but mainly because it feels like summer is just around the corner and I love waking up to light sunny mornings!

🌸 There always seems to be so much on in May too!
My twins have a birthday this month and we have a family party to celebrate my husbands entrance into the bus pass club! We have another 60th party to go to and so it feels like a celebration month! ( many thank you cards to be written! )

🌸 Other events this month include Chelsea Flower Show, a few days away in Palma, 2 bank holidays, my mother - in - laws dog coming to stay plus it’s online shopping event in 10 days time! ( sign up via the link in my bio 👆)

For all your geniuses out there, this sign is now available in red!

💯This sign got so much love in the navy colour way not surprisingly so but I’ve had requests for it in red too, so here it is…

💯Who is your genius? And would they love this in their office, kitchen, bedroom or shed or studio?

💯Made by those lovely people in Sheffield who used to make registration plates, this new metal sign in red with light cream text, also has a hole either side for easy hanging!

Do you ever do this?

🩷My daughter recently left to spend the rest of the ski season in Canada

🩷As much as she couldn’t wait to be there I knew she would miss home too, so I wrote her a series of love letters all dated to be opened over a period of 10 days or so…

🩷I popped these secretly in her luggage, each one containing messages of love, support and encouragement to help her settle in a far away land knowing that her family love and support what she is doing!

🩷As she is my daughter, she has been delighted to find these and has even captured a pic of each one as she has found it… message received and job done!

🩷Send someone you love a hand written message today, It’s much more personal than a text of an email… and they can be kept forever!

Hello lovely regular followers and Welcome to all the newbies! Thank you for being here!
I thought I would re-introduce myself afresh for 2024…

I’m Karen and am the founder of South London Letterpress, an emporium of lovely letterpress and gorgeous goodies for you and your desk at home!

I live in Clapham, South West London, in the same house for 26 years and I love it here with my husband, 2 children and 3 miniature dachshunds…

I grew up on the North Yorkshire coast and my family still live in the county - I am the eldest of 7 children (I know!) and my parents were still together until my father passed away in 2022.

I have always been a creative and will try my hand at anything - it doesn’t have to be perfect, just give it a go!

I work from my home studio ( small spare room ) and even though I could do with a bigger space with better storage I think I can make it work!

I love what I do and I do what I love ❤️

I also love doing pop-ups and events and collaborations and I’m happy to travel anywhere to do that!

It’s nearly over!

✏️My 4 week stint at The Curated Store is coming to an end this Sunday and I cannot believe how quickly the time has flown!

✏️This beautiful store is a unique concept, in that each month a different curation of small businesses sell their wares … the brainchild of Annabel and Rachel, the store is run daily by them and the small business owners.

✏️As always, it’s been so good meeting all our lovely customers in real life and because the store is in historic Stow -on-the-Wold, it has a great mix of locals, day visitors and tourists from overseas all looking to take home a special gift!

✏️The very last day for the October curation is this Sunday 29th - the shop is open 11am to 4pm in pretty & bustling Talbot Court…

✏️Thank you to everyone who has popped in to say hello and shop with us this month, it’s been a blast to see you and I’ve met some fabulous new friends with amazing small businesses!

🎃The best thing about having my two 18 year olds at home at the moment, before they go off on their travels, is that I am getting lots of help with my business!

🎃My son has been brilliant at loading and unloading my stock at fairs and my daughter keeps me company at my stall, plying me with hot drinks and sorting cards into order as well as selling and chatting to customers!

🎃This morning she very kindly offered to take some product shots for Autumn and I think you will agree they look great!

🎃Complete with a pumpkin or two to set the tone, she snapped away and I love what she has done… Thank you Bea!

🎃They used to laugh at what I did in my studio but now they seem to really appreciate my little biz and hopefully realise how much work is involved! Inspiration for them both in how to run your own business…

Hello!

💮I’ve had a surge of new followers recently, thank you! and to you, my loyal old ones thank you for sticking by me!
I thought I’d better introduce myself again!

💮I’m Karen, founder of South London Letterpress and I live in Clapham, SW London with my husband and twins, along with our 3 Dachsund’s, Fig, Fennel & Sage

💮I’ve always been a creative and practical person ( I’m a Virgo, can you tell? ) and following a 20 year career as a Nurse/ Midwife I gave that part of my life up to have my children and then started a totally different career path!

💮I LOVE STATIONERY!

💮I started my own business because I felt there was a lack of good quality thank you cards on the market for me as well as my growing children - yes you could buy multi packs of the mass printed type, but I wanted special cards, something that showed how grateful we really were for the gifts given or the weekends hospitality shared.

💮 I love quality, crisp fresh card, colour and style and that’s what I have created for you. You won’t find me on the high street because I am a small business printing in small batches to reduce waste and storage costs. I use the best materials I can afford to keep my prices reasonable, so that those that love to write can continue to do so…

💮I do everything by hand, as my 2 Adana letterpress printers are hand operated. Not electric. My envelopes are hand embossed too for that extra special touch.

💮 I am the only one in the business, apart from some help from my family at fairs & events, I am the printer, the designer, the buyer, the packager, the post woman, the seller at events, the driver, the social media person and omg, so much more…

💮 I love what I do because I also love writing and receiving hand written notes and hope you do too! Let’s keep writing alive! X

All The Fun Of The Fair!

🛍️Only a couple more days to go before the wonderful Fair is open!
I’m so excited to be there not just because it’s so local to me but because it is such a great event which raises funds for local people!

🛍️Over 90 fantastic small businesses set up in the most beautiful location in SW London

🛍️Come along for a browse, shop, stop for coffee or lunch… Ooh! and don’t forget to bring your list!

🛍️I’ll be bringing all my NEW things, including the Gorgeous Tissue Boxes, the Prosecco and Gin Pencil sets and the Pink Piggy Notecards!
