Just Because there's no cure for Tinnitus doesn't mean that anyone affected cannot go on and live a happy normal life
When I was first told that Tinnitus was something that I would have to “deal with" for my entire life, it was one of the biggest and emotional moments I can remember
Due to the fact there is no cure I found myself with a condition I knew nothing about, I found myself with a problem that could not be explained
The thing with Tinnitus is because there is no cure, often I heard, “Just deal with it” and unfortunately it's not easy to “Just deal with it"
4-years on from being told I have permanent Tinnitus, I can now confidently say that I’m living a Tinnitus free life, of course the noise is still there however, it does not bother me in the slightest.
What I've realized is that having Tinnitus doesn’t doesn’t have to be a life filled with anxiety, stress and bad sleep.
I’ve never shared my story like this publicly before because I wasn’t sure what people would think. But I’m sure that there are other people out there like me and if this inspires just one of them I’ll be happy.
over the past 10 years, some of my best memories have been late nights listening to some incredible music
Years of attending concerts, listening to live music I didn’t realize protecting my ears would be so important, around 4 years ago after attending an amazing music festival I didn’t realize that this event would be one to remember.
The following morning I kept hearing a muffling noise, a number of days went by and this muffling noise continued. At this point, it started to affect my sleep as I was looking for an invisible noise that no one else could hear
I approached my mother for support to understand if she knew anything about this condition
My Mothers reply was simple “Son you probably have Tinnitus"
Huh? What’s Tinnitus? And that’s when my journey with Tinnitus began
After multiple visits to the doctors, they all told me the same because I hadn’t protected my ears due to the loud noise I had caused noise trauma in my ear and as a result, Tinnitus is something that I now needed to manage going forward
I can’t help but think something as simple as wearing earplugs in a loud environment would have protected me from getting this condition.
Months in this ringing in my ear started to have an effect on me in ways, I could not have ever imagined. Anxiety, stress, lack of sleep all began to have an impact on my life. The simplest things such as socializing become so difficult just because I continued to overthink about this ringing noise.
Sitting back one day I found myself overthinking for hours about how Tinnitus had impacted me and closed me off from the closest people in my life.
This was completely out of character for me, and I realized that if I didn’t start managing my Tinnitus better, then this would change me as the person I am today.
I said to myself I need to get back to the person who I once was. From that day I spent every day trying to better myself and understand more about Tinnitus and how I could become Tinnitus free
When we say tinnitus free, it doesn't mean Tinnitus will disappear but managing Tinnitus in a way it doesn’t bother you or take over your life.
What I’ve realized over the past number of years is something as simple as carrying a food diary and understanding what your Tinnitus triggers are can have such a positive impact on your relationship with this condition.
What I found through creating a Tinnitus diary is that when I eat certain foods the next day the noise will spike in both ears. Now that I know this I’m more planned for the noise I won’t let myself become anxious due to having a bad Spike.
It’s these bits of information that have helped me manage my day/week in a positive way with Tinnitus
I know that there are so many others out there that are in my situation 4 years ago and my advice to you is you can go on and live a normal happy life
After 4-years of sleepless nights and overthinking and dedicating many hours to research I’ve realized that there are many ways to combat this condition so that it doesn’t impact your life
Since managing my condition in a positive way I’ve been sharing my knowledge with others through social media, I’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of people reaching out to me and feel blessed that I can share information and give guidance to any one effected. People are always asking me “Adam how can I manage my condition better”
I’ve put together a self-help guide detailing 3 things that you can implement today that will have a positive impact on your journey.
